I've been running the B550I AORUS PRO AX for the last couple of months now paired with a 5800X across a slew of different BIOS revisions (both beta and stable) and figured I'd share some of the workarounds for issues I've come up with for this particularly unruly board.

Firstly, a workaround for the pervasive Bluetooth problem: Sometimes after a clean boot on-board Bluetooth won't start up correctly and can't be manually started from Windows either. Unfortunately, the best solution that I've found for this issue at the moment is to shut down the system, power off at the wall, then press the power button of your PC once (discharge caps, etc) wait a few seconds, then flick it back on at the wall and power up again. Bluetooth should now be present and functional again.. It blows my mind that this issue is present in a product that made it through QA testing and it still seems to proc across every BIOS revision I've tested thus far, so it may be the only workaround we get for a while unfortunately.

Second up, solving BSoDs immediately after booting: This one initially had me scratching my head for a bit the first time it occurred, but I've had it happen again once more since then and I've seen other people reporting the issue in this thread so I think it's fair to categorise it as a problem. The issue seemingly stems from an arbitrary and unsolicited partial (or complete?) reset of your system BIOS settings, thus reverting selection of a RAM XMP profile. In both instances, I found that my RAM was still targeting 3600MHz, but without the XMP profile selected the timings were all out and so as you'd expect, the system was completely unstable. All you've got to do to solve it is boot into setup (hit your delete key on boot), enter Advanced Mode, then under the 'Tweaker' tab, Set 'Extreme Memory Profile(X.M.P.) to Profile 1 (or whichever is relevant for your particular memory/ mem overclock config) then save and exit. I'd love to know why this has reset on multiple occasions. Again, this seems like the kind of problem that really shouldn't make it past QA testing, but here we are..

Third, On-board sound not working: So for some reason, the standard headphone output 3.5mm jack on the motherboard is non-functional for me. Really odd, but I had a look around and found a couple of other people posting about the same problem on Reddit. Sure enough, plugging a set of headphones into the line-out instead and specifying the output as front-speakers in the Reaktek audio console seems to work well enough for getting around this issue for now.

Finally, Realtek Gaming 2.5GbE Ethernet dropping out: So this one was the biggest pain in the ass for me as I take advantage of in-home game streaming technology to play games on the anaemic HTPC in my living room over the network playing from my gaming PC in the office. Problem is, stressing the ethernet hardware onboard the B550I Pro AX at all seems to randomly cause it to conk out completely.. There's a couple of things in play here.. Firstly, some people have reported that the latest driver released by Realtek for this component has resolved the issue for them, though this doesn't seem to be the case universally as many people are still reporting issues with the new driver. Personally I'm on driver version 10.45.928.2020 dated 28/09/2020 and I was able to keep it running 100% stable by disabling Energy-Efficient Ethernet, setting EEE Max Support Speed to 1.0 Gbps Full Duplex, disabling Advanced EEE, setting Speed & Duplex to 1.0Gbps Full Duplex (yeah, it's kind of in there twice, idfk) and setting Jumbo Frame to Disabled. I'm not certain that all of these changes are necessary as I kind of winged it a bit on this one, but I can tell you that I haven't had any network dropouts in the month since making these changes with constant daily use and heavy network load so I'm reasonably confident that it's resolved the issue for me at least and hopefully works for others too.

That about wraps it up for my sordid experience with this board thus far. Hopefully some of this info is helpful to some of you here as well and with any luck, maybe Gigabyte can do something about providing us with some slightly less hacky solutions in the not-too-distant future.

The problems I've found with B550i AX, 5800x, F12 are

On a restart the CPU FAN (PWM Noctua) stops while Windows is loading and then restarts after Windows starts.
I think this is a Gigabyte specific problem but as a CPU fan stopping could be serious its really bad that it's still not been fixed. It doesnt seem to happen when coming out of hibernation.

On a restart there is a USB device in device manager showing as Set address failed . This is HW ID 048D 5702 and is maybe the ITE device related to RGB.
Uninstalling in device manager and re-scanning seems to fix it until the next restart. This might have only started recently. Again it doesnt seem to happen coming out of hibernation

Coming out of hibernation there is an error ID 17 BTHUSB The local Bluetooth adapter has failed in an undetermined manner and will not be used. The driver has been unloaded.
Luckily BT still works after the error is logged. There is explicit mention of hibernation in the Intel release notes for driver 22.20.

I couldn't get Qflash+ to work even with a range of USB 2.0 and 3.0 drivers in sizes 1GB to 32GB. Luckily F3 POSTed into BIOS.

I'm still running older driver 10.39.212.2020 for the Ethernet. If it starts drooping out then of all the issues this will make me wish I had stuck to Asus

With several h/w releases a year from Intel and AMD now and with a couple of dozen different m/b SKUs for each release I guess they're too busy to actually fix things rather than just release a new BIOS for a new AGESA from AMD

I'm not sure, but this is what I gather from being here and seeing replies. Aside from Stasio it is all regular members, and Stasio ignored my inquiries about his involvement extent with GB in the past. Also if someone keeps pressing about an issue, all we are told is to make a support ticket with GB, i.e no one saying "report received and we forward to engineers, they are working on this and is a known issue", etc, nothing of the sort.

Until he proves otherwise he's just a random user that finds URLs of unreleased BIOS images on the Gigabyte websites.

For months, none of the issues, such as Realtek RTL8125 disconnects, USB, PCI-E, other instability, seem to have been communicated to the real Gigabyte Support, nor resolved.

I recommend every user who has any issue right now to create a separate support ticket for each issue they have with the AM4 boards.

The Ryzen 2700x now boosts with 8x 4.35 GHz, previously 4.25 GHz.
Ram is stable and system is undervolting.

Has anyone managed to fix the USB issues on their B550 board? I have an Xbox controller that loses connection during gameplay. That has never happened with the previous machine.

Disabling USB Selective Suspend in Windows does not help. Setting Power Supply Idle Control to 'Typical' in the BIOS does not help, either.

zalbard USB 2.0 or other 3.x ports? Have you tried disabling Global C-States in BIOS?

I tried the xbox wireless receiver USB today as it was better than bluetooth on my previous PC but got disconnects straight away in game needing the dongle to be unplugged. I had it on case front USB along with a mouse receiver as thats better for the signal but Ive moved it to the red rear USB and made sure the Power Management setting is off as I have with all the other USB devices/hubs in device manager. Its been better since.

The m/b manual (B440i AX) block diagram shows some USB come from the CPU and some from the B550 just like the PCIe lanes but then there's not enough info as to which ports actually connect where in case keeping devices on separate hubs helps

hi, I have the same configuration as you and I confirm the problem of the set_address_failure and
I confirm it is ITE Device for RGB management
for this problem i changed two motherboards first in RMA and the second exact same problem.
I try all bios avaible but no luck
I confirm also the stop fan while windows loading (Noctua me too)
For realtek lan I am using 10.46 driver they seem ok


At this point I think it's systematic problems of all of these motherboard B550i
No one has noticed it yet in Gigabyte?

This is a good question. I've only had it switched on and running windows for a day now but noticed these right away - and the USB issues since - and in any case they are mentioned in Reddit posts and customer reviews going back months,

The board works well for perf and thermals - so did well in website and video reviews - but these annoying issues that affect us users are never picked up on by reviewers.

zalbard USB 2.0 or other 3.x ports? Have you tried disabling Global C-States in BIOS?

My board only has USB 3.2 ports (I only utilize the ports at the back of the case).

There are 2 internal USB hubs (AMD USB 3.10 eXtensible Host Controller). I tried connecting the wireless adapter to either of them (verified in the Device Manager), it makes no difference.

Here's a full recap of what I tried:

* disable USB Selective Suspend in Windows;
* set Power Supply Idle Control to 'Typical' in the BIOS;
* disable Global C-State in the BIOS;
* force all PCI-E to Gen 3 in the BIOS.

Nothing helps, the controller briefly loses connection every 5-10 minutes (just to be clear, I sit right next to the PC). Interestingly, it may depend on the workload, certain (more taxing, perhaps?) games don't actually exhibit any issues.

The same thing happens to me, I have a Sound Blaster Z (to play with speakers) and a Sound BlasterX G6 (for headphones in games and voip).

With SBZ I had a problem and that is that the audio channels were interchanged, googling a bit I saw that Pci v3 was recommended for the port so I activated gen3 in PCIEx1.
With the SBX G6 it happens to me that from time to time it disappears and I cannot use it until I disconnect and reconnect it from the USB. I read that the problem came from the same, investigating I saw that the USB controllers depend on the PCIEx16 lines so I also force it to gen3, at the moment I am testing ...
very little time has passed to ensure that the problem has been resolved.

The funny thing is that I have an XBox One controller connected via Bluetooth, before changing the version from PCIEx to gen3 at certain times it seems to have a lot of lag but since I have forced gen3, instead of happening it disconnects and reconnects ....
curious.

Having seen what I have seen, I am convinced that the problem must be related to the USB power management.

AMD has always had issues.

All the problems discussed are related to mainboard.
It is not possible months after its release on the market of this motherboard no one has noticed nor have they been resolved by gigabyte
In my opinion they are simply not able to do it unlike other manufacturers
I repeat that for example the problem realted to ITE Device happened on two mainboard it is clearly a bios problem

I had both the mouse USB and the xbox wireless receiver on case front panel which goes to the USB 3.1 header on the m/b and got frequent disconnects of the receiver. I moved the wireless receiver to the red 3.2 port at the back and didnt get the frequent disconnects.

I havent changed any of the settings youve mentioned - In the properties under Power Management for the Host Controllers, Root Hubs, Xbox Wireless adapter, USB Input Devices, and Realtek Ethernet I just untick 'Allow the computer to turn off to save power'

I haven't found which ports on the B550i go to the second Host Controller in device manager or whether any are wired to the CPU USB ports instead of the B550.

From my previous PC I also remember the xbox receiver was better when not plugged in near the hot air exhausted from case fans or GPU

It may also be possible we are seeing two different things.

My disconnects were the actual receiver which needed to be unplugged from USB to be able to reconnect the controller. This is what I improved by moving the receiver to the rear red USB 3.2 and unticking power management

A dropped connection from controller to receiver which can be easily reconnected was something that happened using bluetooth in some games and is better with the xbox receiver especially when plugged in the from of the case. As you say this is more processing related but could still be helped by USB fixes.
