Don't flash unless you absolutely need it to fix a problem. It's far too risky IMO after my experiences and other people's as well.

I would avoid the 8a Bios(es). They should not even have been released IMO and should be withdrawn.

Have you noticed how Gigabyte releases Bioses and then replaces the Bioses with different files with the same name and version number?

I have and I have several Bioses on my PC all with different Md5's yet the same stated Bios Version.

The files were downloaded several times from different servers and Md5's checked to make sure that the file was not corrupt. Currently, that is the only way to make sure that the Bios that you download is not corrupted while downloading.

My advice after personal experience and knowing other people's experience is not to flash the Bios for any reason unless absolutely necessary. It could destroy your system.

Yes, a BIOS flash is always a risk and should only be done if a user knows the risk and accepts it.

If you HAVE to flash to support your CPU you are using then it would be a must. Other then that should only be if you have issues with a certain BIOS that a newer one addresses and then only be done if you know what you are doing and have read and accepted all associated warnings.

Rule of thumb for everyday non enthusiasts is "Dont' Fix it, if it ins't broke" as stated above.

Beta BIOS's should also be taken with far more precaution as they are in Beta stage which of course means their could be issues worse then the BIOS you are using now.

And of course please do take a minute and read the Qflash Guide I wrote and if you feel anything is missing feel free to PM me to add it in.

This list is provided by end users and not Gigabyte directly, all BIOS flashes carry a risk and please do not flash until you have properly educated yourself on what it involves and accept those risks.

With that said, If/When you flash be sure you load optimized defaults after you flash is done to complete the BIOS update process.

And finally as you see in the guide (you read it didn't you) DO NOT USE @BIOS!!!

I started by assembling everything in the case and attaching all the front panel and fan connectors. When I try to POST, the fans spin up briefly, the PHASE-LED lights on the motherboard all flash on, and then it goes quiet. This will repeat every 5 seconds or so, but doesn't get any further. No beeps, no other indications.
In troubleshooting so far, I have removed everything from the case with mobo on cardboard box with same result, have reduced memory to one stick and alternated stick, have reseated CPU. Same thing happens.
If I remove the 8-pin (or 4-pin have tried both) second power connection, the fans will stay spinning and the PHASE-LED stays lit, but nothing happens after that. This is exactly the same behavior if I leave the 8-pin power connector in and remove the CPU (have been removing pieces and attempting power to try and narrow down the issue).
Does this sound like a mobo problem? Any other troubleshooting steps to recommend at this stage?"
I told him:
"Found something else that may be trouble - what sSpec# is your processor?
If it's "SLAPK" this is not a problem (C0 stepping); if it's "SLB9K" you've got an E0 step CPU, and board probably shipped w/original release F1 BIOS - E0 stepping Wolfdale wasn't supported until F2; you may need to beg/borrow/steal an older processor, just to use to flash the F2 BIOS...

BTW - FWIW, I will have the same #@^% problem, as I have a DS5, which I know didn't ship with the requisite BIOS, as to support the E0 stepping of the 9550 I need a 'beta' BIOS. Intend to build a cheap Ubuntu box to run alongside my workstation to avoid internet exposure of my windoze, so will probably buy a cheap CPU for it in advance, just to do the flash & drop it back into the box for a couple months... "

Is this correct? As I said, doesn't much matter to me, as I need an E1200 ($54) for an Ubuntu box; I can just drop it in to flash the F8a...

Yes, that would likely be correct. Of course "SOME" BIOS's will support a unsupported (In the list) CPU good enough for you to flash to the one you need. But this is not very often the case and you would be correct in saying that he may need a Older CPU to flash with.

And do keep in mind Older CPU's when speaking of P45 boards Must be VRD11.1 power phase CPU, and are not compatible with VRD10 designed CPU's.

So always check the CPU support list for said board if you ever do need to pick up a cheaper "old" 775 CPU to be sure it is supported by the board as well as with the BIOS you have or think you may have.

Ahhh! Thanks for the pointer - my Ubuntu box may have just gotten a performance boost! I had always just assumed (goes to show what assumptions are worth...) that a Socket775 was a Socket775

At present Gigabyte have pulled both Bioses F11 & F12b from their (Taiwan & UK) sites for GA-P35C-DS3R...
Anyone noted the same for other models?

I know Gigabyte love to continously change their website layout, so perhaps it's got something to do with that and only temporary.

I would say it is likely more to due with the daily site changes or something else since They are still listed on a few Gigabyte sites. They are both however pulled from the Taiwan page, so who knows?

Maybe they are about to publish F12-13 final or something?

F9 was released for the the GA-EP45-DS3L in September. It resolves an S3 sleep issue. Link is currently for F8.

GA-P35C-DS3R and some of the other P35's have had new bios releases.

The P35C-DS3R mobo has a Realtek 8111B NIC. I don't understand how the new beta bios is going to add support for an 8111C NIC. Does the new BIOS use a magic wand to transform the NIC from a 8111B to an 8111C? There must be something I am not understanding here.
