  • Re: Welcome to GIGABYTE Technical Support!

I am interested in buying GA-P55A-UD3 from amazon. They do not know what revision do they have 1 or 2? Can you help me on that?

Secondly, what is the difference between these two revision.

Also, does it support Core i3 540 ?

Further, I want to ask that i have read on various sites that this motherboard has POSTing issue.. is that true?

and...am buying it from amazon but I live in Pakistan..so what would be the procedure for me if I want to RMA it?

    Thank you :)

that mb does support that cpu but remember you would need to buy a seperate graphics card as the mb wont support/have onboard graphics with that chip,i havnt heard of any start up issues and i dont know the difference in revisions, its probably different cpu sockets as the first ones were getting burn marks when extremely overclocked

for any rma you would just post back to amazon and they would send to gigabyte for repair/replacement

if you wanted to use the built in graphics processor inside the i3 540 then you would need a h55/h57 motherboard and you wouldnt need a seperate graphics card

                        Mr. Yeh,

I am having a problem getting my GA-X38-DQ6 motherboard to boot to ANY device. It was working without issue for the past two years, and last night I rebooted to complete an application installation (MotionInJoy, a PS3 controller mapping program) but found that the system now hangs after POSTing. During the POST, all of my SATA hard drives are found, but immediately after that I get a blank screen (no cursor, nothing) and nothing happens. I've checked in the BIOS and it sees all of my hard drives and my SATA DVD drive, and even shows the correct capacity. I also noticed that the only thing I can do when booting is press Delete to go to the system setup. Pressing F9, F12, or Esc does nothing at all. This means I can't even boot to a USB drive. Any thoughts on what might be going on?

                        My system specs are:

                        Gigabyte GA-X38-DQ6 Motherboard
                        Intel Q6600 processor
                        Tuniq Tower Heatsink/Fan
                        Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400C4 RAM (3x1GB)
                        WD 150GB Raptor HDD (SATA)
WD 500GB Caviar Black HDD (SATA)
                        Lite-On DVD (SATA)
                        Corsair 620HX PSU
                        EVGA 8800GTS 512 Video Card
                        Creative X-Fi Fatality Sound Card
                        In an Antec 900 Case

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated- I can't do anything at all with the system in its current condition.

                        Thanks!

These are some things you may want to try.
I would first try shutting down unplugging the computer then push and hold in the power button on the front panel for 20 seconds. Then plug it in and try it. If no joy you may want to try this. Press delete at first boot. In CMOS setup Load Optimized Defaults. Save and exit. If that don't work follow the instructions in your motherboard manual for clear cmos (page 35 or 34). If you are still having trouble repair Windows. Boot to the Windows 7 or Vista cd and perform a startup repair.

                          Code:
                          CMOS Setup Utility-Copyright (C) 1984-2007 Award Software

Thank you for the response and suggestions.

The power button trick had no effect. Neither did using optimized settings, or even failsafe settings. Clearing the CMOS by removing the battery and shorting the terminals also had no effect.

I am unable to boot to a Windows 7 disk because I can't seem to boot to ANY device. My DVD drive is a SATA drive so I didn't expect that to work (since I can't boot from my SATA HDD's), but I am also unable to boot to a Windows 7 image on a bootable USB drive. The only thing that works during system startup is pressing Delete to enter the system setup. I cannot press F12 to get to the boot menu, or F9/Escape to use the other startup tools.

For the sake of thoroughness I swapped in a hard drive which has Ubuntu loaded on it and is bootable, and got the same results. The system just hangs after POSTING and never gets to a bootloader or splash screen. I'm thinking there's a problem with the motherboard but I don't know what to do from here.

I just tried what you suggested, with no luck.

What's interesting is I was able to access the Q-Flash utility from within the system setup screen, and I was able to flash to BIOS to another version (F8) from my USB drive. But I still find it unusual that I can't get to the boot menu by pressing F12 during startup- it's as if I'm not pressing anything at all.
