yes, i have heard my chip is very overclockable..........but, never bothered, since i am not into computer games...........but, i do love working with computer hardware, and, i must admit.....indirectly getting into it in an effort to mainly get rid of random, occasional BSOD's.......has been great fun here.....and everyone is so helpful ! i've learned a lot, but, got a long, long way to go. I tend to really get into stuff , if motivated. ;) btw, my mom was a geordie (i believe that's the word), lol

.....and , i think it's you I have heard say repeatedly, 0124 bsods=qpi/vtt ....since i have increased that, not one bsod

yeah, its same for z68,124=qpi/vtt 101=cpu voltage either too much or too little, random freezing in games and no blue screens usually points to low qpi/vtt too, auto usually either overvolts or doesnt use enough so its best to manually set the cpu/dram and qpi/vtt and test

Actually OCing is made simple compared to what it was before, but still there are a few things you need to know and a few more if you are going to extreme.

Sandy Bridge will still be better in (almost) any benchmark, at the same CPU clock but not that better that it justify upgrading your system IMO.
Intel tick-tock strategy has only one purpose, squeez any buck they can out of our pockets, and we must fight against it :)

If you don't play games you graphics gard is already more than you will ever need. I get only 54fps in OpenGL and still the one ga,e I occasionaly play runs smooth with high details settings. I have tried to use the Catalist's performance settings and it gave me nothing niticeable aside some atrifacts from time to time so I gave it up.

Next stage I think is 200 x19 and memory at 1600, you can than try x20 and x21. Or you can try and push the memory to see how far it can hold the 7-7-7-21 timings, with small bclk increments.

The 860 at 4.1-4.2ghz should get about the same cinebench as my 2500 at 4.5ghz , that's why I called it a nice target for you to get 7.10pts.

21*200 would be sweet, but I know some cpu's have a hard time reaching 200fsb. If that is the case you could always opt for 22*196 or something like that.

The x22 multi did not take, does turbo have to be enabled to use it, and would turbo be still x26?

You can limit the effect of the turbo by disabling c1e, eist and c3&c6 states in bios, that way it will just sit at the selected multiplier. Once you know your limits you can try to enable the powersavings again.

edit: digin up some pics I took from my p55, I found I had this settings for steady 21x200

I was talking about the x22 multi which he already tried but BIOS reverted it to 21 after boot.

Oh, okay I'm sorry I did not pick up on that. It does sometimes happen a certain multi won't work, especially the even ones for some reason unknown to me.

On this board I had a problem one day that it would move off 45x no mater what I set, but that must have been a bug or corruption, because it went away after clr-cmos...
