if you do go 4ghz+ you might need to loosen timings to 8-8-8-24,dont think you will get 7-7-7-20 stable at that clock

When pushing the CPU, try to take the MEM out of the equation, that way you will be more sure it is the CPU acting up if it doesn't work. Once you find your CPU limit, you can up/tighten MEM again.

If you are fanatic about getting high MEM, you could do the same trick there, only this time taking the CPU out of the equation, keep it at a lowish point where you are certain it will work, while pushing the MEM.

In the end you can (try to) combine both highs you found and you're done

i came here originally just trying to get my system running like it should......ie windows with no bsod's,( 0124 ) which,are gone, remedied by raising qpi/vtt and also to get my 1600 memory and sata 3 ssd drive running at the speed they are supposed to run at. In the process I've learned so much about cpu, memory, timings, voltages, bios settings etc..but a ways to go for sure. Getting the computer overclocked is a fun bonus, acutally, I don't game at all, but, its quite a rush, i've discovered.

I just make you feel better you get more of what you paid for.

Like Darkje say, you can set memory to run at 1200 (is there a 6 multiplier?) with timings 7-7-7-21, that should be easy for the memory.
Also try to enable turbo boost and see if you can get the x22 multi to work, with combinations of power states. There must be a way it should work.

ok, so , 1200 to slow memory down and get the CPU up with turbo boost/ 22 multiplier ?.......what does " combinations of power states " mean?

Combnations I mean of power state and turbo
turbo on/of
C1E on/off
C3/C6/C7 on/off
eist on/off

Total 16 combinations. Begin with turbo C3/C6/C7 and C1E.
With a x22 you can stay with 175MHz bclk for 3.85GHz, and only need 181MHz for 4GHz, easier for the IMC/QPI

a. yes, i do can do memory multiplier 6

b. here are my bios settings from my 3.8ghz oc of last nite...........(seems stable, ran prime for a bit, then three passes of IBT and LinX, 8 threads at 4096mb in each, successfully......top temp reached in any tests was 70C, cpu-z reported top voltage needed was 1.232 (i believe).

So 180bclk not a problem and memory holds timing higher than expected, need to find it's OC limit also.

slowed memory down with 6x multiplier......trying to get 22x muliplier to work, darn bios keeps kicking me down to 21 when i reboot, trying to fiddle with power states to get to 22x....even tried shutting them all off, hmmmmmm ?

Could be that enabling turbo itself is enough. You will set x21 but turbo will boost it to x22.

ok, left dvid alone for now....................turned turbo on.......w/21x.............rebooted..........bios reports cpu frequency 3852 mhz ! ;)
