Re: Time for me to upgrade ??

hmmm, let me see if I got this straight.....

    1. Run IBT at default bios settings for CPU and memory, speed and voltages............like, bclk 133 x 21 = 2.8ghz, qpi freq. and uncore on AUTO, HT on, cpu vcore on AUTO, memory 133x10 =1333mhz, 9-9-9-24, BUT.........keeping qpi/vtt at 1.25V ?

    2. Run IBT at oc'd bios settings.

    3. Run IBT with and without HT enabled for both #1 and #2.

    4. If 4 threads are running when IBT runs, 512/768 per thread.......but, if only one thread is running, run at 2048 or 4096 ?

Re: Time for me to upgrade ??

512MB or 739MB per thread always, choose which and always run the same, I think 512 is enough.
      4 threads = 2048MB or 3072MB, 8 threads 4096MB or 6144MB.

you can run DDR-1600 with the stock settings.

Lets start with HT off for both, then try one of them with HT on and see if there is any difference.

At 3350 my CPU yields 23.47GFlops(max), I'd be very disapointed if the i7-860 won't do at least twice as that.

Re: Time for me to upgrade ??

The 41+ stock and 49+ OCed looks just right. botj are ar 3+ percent higher thanmy prediction.

Now we need to find benchmark that will tell us where that HT is becoming useful and should you keep it on or off. Yntill then I think it's best to keep it off. CINEBENCH CPU benchmark should give us a clue, it's a huge download though.

<s>Are you still using DVID or static vcore?</s>

Maybe you would like to try 175bclk x21 CPU and x8 memory(DDR-1400) with 7-7-7-21 timings.

Good morning ! (if its morning where you are) ;)

Ok, will shut off HT for now.........I had no idea people actually shut that off, ever...........seems double the threads would always be a benefit......does shutting off HT give you better overclocks ?

I downloaded and ran cinebench last nite with my current OC.......i was tired, i have no recollection of the results.....lol

And of course I'd like to try 175bclk x21 CPU and x8 memory(DDR-1400) with 7-7-7-21 timings. (hehe) ;)

I remember testing HT against no HT with my P4 and it seemd to me then that there is some gain even though not big.
I have no clue why the difference in GFlops it needs some more testing, maybe if we set 4 threads manually it would be the same. There is something about HT in the readme but it's not clear if UBT set 8 or 4 threads by default.

I think the only difference between HT and no HT is the heat which is higher with HT.
I expect CINEBENCH to have better score with HT, but games may be better with HT off.

just ran Cinebench cpu tests (current, 03-07 overclock settings); HT on = 5.7 HT off= 4.46

what next coach, the 175 bclk overclock you mentioned ? damn, this is fun, lol

Yes 175 a bit more DVID and maybe VTT.
Or you may try 200 x 19 with DDR-1600. The heat is my concern but if IBT runs no higher than 75c than it's ok.
