Re: Time for me to upgrade ??

    just changed to 7-7-7-21 @ 1333 , 1.65v, qpi/vtt 1.21v........5 mins, no problems yet..........haha...........hmmm, not sure where i got the 1.21............probably in these forums............

that got me to thinking, 8-8-8-24 @ 1600, 1.65v, qpi/vtt 1.21 was certainly headed in the right direction, should i have tried higher qpi/vtt voltage ?

Re: Time for me to upgrade ??

The 2 volumes of i5-700 and i7-800 datasheet have different dates, vol. 1 is from July 2010 and vol 2 is from Spetember 2009 so maybe Intel changed some specs.
The guide linked from http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...56-1366-a.html also suggest to keep VTT under 1.4v for every day use.

I guess you could try more VTT and see how that works.
But run memory benchmark and compare the low timing at 1333 against 1600 and see if it worth it.
If the memory has XMP I'd use that and just set the VTT manually.

        7-7-7-21, 1333, qpi/vtt=1.21, dramv=1.65.......ran prime for 3.5 hours, ran FINE........ran maxmem to compare later

8-8-8-24, 1600, 1.21, 1.65 .......had issues from the start.........so, upped qpi to 1.23, good so far, ran maxmen.....very similar results to the 7-7-7-21, 1333 settings

gonna see how stable 8-8-8-24, 1600 settings are tonite, run prime, etc.......just for comparison

oh, thats good to know.... i hadn't read anything here about guys goin past 1.21.......i am kinda clueless on this stuff, but, got fed up with not knowing why i got random blue screen errors, so, am forcing myself to learn, thanks for all the help ! so, ur overclocking 1600 memory to 1800 ?

its been ok at 1.23 for a few hours now, but, haven't really stressed it with prime95 or pi or anything.

Maybe you will get the appetite for some OC now to something you can live with till 4th core generation.

LOL there is no 4th generation yet, there's time.

Does you BIOS has the Dynamic Vcore(DVID) option, do you enable Hyper Threading?, and what is the max multiplier you can set for the CPU in BIOS?
