Re: Haswell Overclocking Guides / Results

get it,its worth the extra in the long run,ive seen a fair few 4670k and 3570k's using more voltage than the bigger brother hyperthreaded chips, maybe they are more closely binned? idk

I never disable hyperthreading on mine, just clock to suit with it enabled

I think sin is writing an oc guide and fair few users here have just gone haswell so should help with settings ect

if you didn't wanna mess with cpu ring voltage you could simply pull 8gb from your pc and rerun your stress tests and see if it fairs any better,if so youll know its related to memory controller/16gb

Re: Haswell: When You're Hot, You're Hot and When You're Not, You're Not

I can't remember where I saw it, but someone said that disabling hyper threading with a Haswell 4770K cpu dropped core temperatures about 10o (C) during stress testing, but the lowered core temperatures were still pretty high.

          **edit** Found it:
from HARDOCP - Power, Overclocking, Conclusions - Intel Haswell i7-4770K IPC and Overclocking Review:
Turning off HyperThreading on our i7-4770K helped us out with core temperatures in a big way. This is probably the single biggest thing you can do to cool off your Haswell 4770K. Turning off HyperThreading will knock a quick 5C to 8C off your individual core temperatures in our experience under high overclocks. Doing this hurts the performance of your processor, possibly a lot, possibly a little, depending on your application. To throw some quick numbers at you, when turning off HyperThreading on our 4770K running at 4.8GHz we saw: Cinebench scores decrease by over 20%, POV-Ray render times increase by 10%, Handbrake encode times increase over 7%, Lost Planet low resolution framerates decrease by 20%, and Metro Last Light low resolutions framerates decrease by 25%. Turning HyperThreading off in our high resolution / graphically intensive game benchmarks, we saw Lost Planet impacted less than 1%, and Metro: Last Light impacted less than 2.5%. So if you are using your 4770K with HyperThreading for workstation applications, a Torrent encode farm, or to play games on a 1024x768 CRT, then you will likely want to leave HyperThreading turned on. If you are using it for "modern" gaming, turning off HyperThreading to give you a better CPU overclock will likely benefit you more than losing CPU cycles with HT turned on.

Ok i looked at the CPU Ring Voltage and the value next to 'AUTO' was 1.050v, so i manually entered in 1.065v which didnt seem to help. I then place CPU Ring Voltage back to 'AUTO' and tried removing 1 of the memory sticks and that didnt help either :(

I just tried running Linx with the latest linpack, it goes about 40 seconds and quits. Doesn't matter how much / how little RAM I check off (I'm running 4x4GB RAM set).

                Were you monitoring core temperatures?
How about testing with Prime95, Small FFT test?

Re: Haswell Overclocking Guides / Results

Yeah it never ran long enough to get hot. I can run Prime 95, no problem. I've always used 8K fft as an early/simple OC check, and did so when I had the 4770K at 4.4GHz.
Now that I got my drive problems straightened out I'm ready for an OC guide. I haven't seen anything for Gigabyte boards yet, hopefully sin will get one done soon.

                    Are you in Win8?
LinX with 11.0.1 somehow didn't work with Win8,but works with Win7.
I posted another one (original) in my sticky thread, try this.

or Ace post that LinX with 10.3.7 Linpack, working in Win8.

                      Stasio has dyslexia.

11.0.1 will work with haswell on win8 not win7.

10.3.7 will work with hawell on win7.

Side note. Just got my new 4770k batch is L310B492. About to swap cpu out now.
