that ssd should be the better of the 2 choices but just so you know you will not see those speeds on your sata3 controller. It will still out perform sata2 ports but your 4k transfer should be better on the sata2 ports.

heres an up to date list and reviews oss ssd's and whether they are asynchronous or synchronous nand

SSD Reviews Thread - Storage Forums

this is the only patriot pyro i found that uses synchronous nand the pyro se model,if price is similar would be worth getting this version

yeah I guess I was wrong.. I was judging by the rated speed. Synchronous has a slightly faster rated speed.

So the 12gbs of Patriot Viper installed clean. Didn't have to increase qpi/vtt from 1.35mv, and its running at 1600mhz on 1.64v. Ran memtest, all good.

I did a fresh install of Win7-64bit (HP) on the Patriot Pyro 240gb ssd (on the marvell controller - Sata III port 6/7), after downloading the latest motherboard patches from Gigabyte. I had intermittent bsods when coming out of sleep, so I downloaded the latest firmware for the ssd, which included:

          5.0.1 Release Notes

-Fixed an issue when exiting PHY power management that caused a performance reduction.

          3.3.2 Release Notes

          -Added Nand Support
          -Addresses Drive Timeout Issue
          -Fixed SMART attributes log calculation
-Optimizes Drive Read to improve ECC errors
-Improves Secure Erase operation to ensure Drive is Idle for improved stability
-Addresses S3/S4 power cycling issue on boot drives which resulted in BSoDs
-Addresses issues with READ/WRITE commands during power up
          - Addresses issues during Firmware Updates
-Changed firmware Identify Parameters during commands
          - Addresses Trim support issue which resulted in the drive freezing
          - Addresses issue on primary boot drives waking from sleep mode and hanging

          Rev 3.2.0

-Improves Drive Management after unsafe power cycle.
-Improves Drive Recovery from Sleep/Hibernate failures.
-Adds support with specific Raid Cards.
          -Enhances Drive power management.

Now it seems very stable. No bsods and my read speeds are averaging about 300mb/s, double that of my velociraptor hdd. I used HDtune to benchmark my ssd. Windows loads in ~10 secs, shuts down in ~4 secs and all my programs open very quickly too! :D My WEI score has moved to 7.9 for both my memory and disk transfer rate (7.7 overall). I'm doubtful installing the ssd on the Sata II (port 0/1) would offer much, if any, improvement in performance. So all is good!

Thanks for the help and advice guys!

I've got the same motherboard/CPU and been doing some Overclocking and got a question, here's my settings.

              1. bclk of 143
              2. Advanced CPU Features I only disable c3/c6/c7 state support, the other settings are set to enable
              3. multi x24
              4. qpiclock ratio x48
              5. uncore x28
              6. memory at x14
              7. CPU voltage on auto cpu-z says running at 1.28v
              8. DRAM 1.66v
              9. QPI/VTT at 1.475v all other settings on auto

My question is my QPI/VTT is running at a high voltage, is this due to the 2k ram speed I have 6gb or ram?
reason I'm trying this as the XMP of the ram dont work. e.g system wont boot.

if its on auto it will use more than whats needed

you can manually set qpi/vtt voltage to 1.35v and see if its stable

No QPI/VTT I have set to 1.475 volts, lower than that and system unstable. question is how save is 1.475 volts?

From what I know there is now way of monitoring the QPI/VTT voltage, so I always try to set manual as system on auto can take too much, seen this is like Dram voltagte, If I set to auto, monitors show it taking almost 1.8 volts. yet works fine on 1.66v

ahh ok,well max safe is usually 1.4v but ive seen users use alot more than that with no ill affects

only other way would be to reduce the ram speed to 1800mhz and try lowering qpi/vtt

what about QPI ratio x48 normal is 36, would this increase the voltage?
also notice from your guide that uncore x28 should be 29 as you say plus x2 +1

Also was looking at your guide for 4.2ghz overclock, and was wondering what QPI/VTT voltage you get at 4.2ghz BCLK 200 ram mulit at 10x so its 2000mhz at moment seems my QPIVTT voltage is close to 1.5v would you say that is well unsafe and better to just lower ram speeds to 1600 and see what qpi/vtt i get from that?
