its probably faulty the gpu memory,my first 5770 would do it in desktop, random colour screen with lines running down,i did everything to try n fix, rma'd for new 5770 and its been solid since on all drivers 10.4-10.7,try and pick up another 5970(new) gtx480's wont be as good imo,you could make a profile in ccc and edit the 2d/3d clocks/voltages it will help but if i were you i would return it if its under warranty or sell and buy another because when you get a working card their good and run cool

My 5970 was bought in late April from Newegg, isn't that new enough? I get the desktop corruption every couple days, the problem with RMAing the card is Sapphire says 2 year warranty but you have to go through the place you bought it, Newegg only does 30 days and after that you have to deal with manufacturer, seem like a crappy warranty.

Do you have any suggestions on which UD7 v1 bios is the best?

      Thanks.

well i dont have that mb,but i would go for latest official on gigabytes website,if no change try latest beta from bios page on here, you can always flash back if it doesnt fix/improve things, just visit sapphire website and request an rma ticket, explain the problems your having with the gpu and what youve tried with no success and they will issue an rma number then send the card off to them, sapphire have a good rma service

Just install MSI afterburner and set 2d clocks higher...like 800c 1030mem and that should fix it...was happening to me as well.

            Hello all:
I'm new to this thread and want to post something that I hope will be answered here and I won't have to post it on a new thread. Here is what I wrote to someone who was wanting to OC their i7 930 chip, and the information that I gave him was information that was passed onto me. Here it is:

"About your water cooling situation, most people (from what I've seen) are clocking their i7's (weather 920, 930 and whatnot) to 4+GHz and they're staying stable right around 38C-43C, but that too depends on the batched series that came out. What I mean by that is, Let's say one guy gets 4.2GHz on his i7 930 (and he bought it a month ago) and someone else gets only 4.09GHz and no higher (and he just bought last week). Well, that "speed" issue happens as a result of that particular batch that was produced. So there is really no telling one chip from the next in what it will go to in your OC'ing... It is what it is and that's life..."

I'm sure this has some validity to it, I just want to know if anybody else may know better. And if you do, please post it, so myself and anybody else may be able to get the proper information needed in order to clock the chip at its full 4.2 GHz. Thanks for anyone that can help...

some clock better than others but all i7 9xx chips should be able to clock to 4.2ghz no matter what batch or revision, look at my 4.2ghz oc template in sig if you want to try,if you have a 930 chip its better to use a 21x cpu multi as it will need less voltage and be more stable

Thanks Wassa. I appreciate the help. By the way how did you do that 4.2GHz OC Template? It looks like you saved it as from a menu choice of something then converted the text to a jpeg. Can you help me with how you saved text file from BIOS or did you have to type it out line by line?

BTW, I will be doing a vid review on my tower (here's a taste of that tower here on our YouTube page):

http://www.renutechsolutions.com/ - We will briefly be going over the NEW FOX Karambit Folding Knife, 4Sevens Maelstrom G5 LED Flashlight, NANUK 905 from Pla...

It's towards the end, but watch the whole thing so you'll get a better idea why we did this build.

I will be installing the Indigo Xtreme here this week and will eventually use this Setup that you have and then see if I can get to 4.2GHz. I will need some help though, as I noticed a few notations that I don't quite understand. But I'm sure you'll help clear that up. I hope you won't mind helping me...

                Again, thanks.

I want to let you know that I am running Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.4 and my ONLY hesitation with updating the FIRMWARE is messing things up with my OS on my SSD. I just don't know how things will "gel" with what we set up using Kakewalk (a setup file that allows you to install Mac OS X). Now on my other SSD I have Windows 7 running. Basically 2 PCs in one...

Please look through everything to make sure that I have all the Voltages, Advanced CPU Features, Uncore & QPI Features, etc set properly. Whatever you can let me know would be great.

I even went a step further and included things that weren't on the X58 Template (like Advanced BIOS Features AND Integrated Peripherals list) so you have my COMPLETE BIOS info. Thanks again advance for your help and let's see if I can get my chip to it's full potential to 4.2GHz instead of 4.09GHz and get my RAM running at it's max to capacity 1600MHz instead of the 1560MHz it's currently on right now. I look forward to input...

When I stress tested it using prime95 (the most current version out there) it shut down after 10 - 20 min. Then when I just kept those settings and tried to start it up, it just shut down anyway. When I brought it back to the 195 setting it's been working fine ever since. Do you have any tweak suggestions that I can do to make this work more efficiently to get it to 4.2Ghz or is everything set properly and that's just the way it is?

Also, if I use the more updated Firmware settings, will that help or not?

I do have to do a vid review though today on our FOX Karambit Trainer and a Tips and Tricks on the G10 FOX Karambit Knife. I also will be doing a FULL review on the PC/Mak Hac Pro Tower that I have and will do a review on an install of the Indigo Xtreme (Thermal Heat Transfer Pad). It's supposed to be better than using regular Thermal Paste and should drop my temps about 4C-7C lower than they are now. Who knows, I still might be able to get to the clock I want to it's full 4.2GHz capacity so my RAM will run at it's max too @ 1600MHz (instead of it's current 1560MHz).

Thanks for whatever you can do... :-)...

                        Try this settings for 4.2GHz:
Make sure your temps are safe.

Aquax - THANK YOU FOR GOING THE EXTRA MILE !!!! I'll give it a shot and see what happens. Again, thanks !!!

In the meantime take a look at this review of the new Corsair H70. The guy who did the review on it is actually using the same Silverstone FT02 tower I have. He made a foolish comment about how the Fan/Rad/Fan looked like "ass" (because it was now in the way of the window of tower), so he set it up a bit different so you can see a bit more into the window of the unit. In my opinion it doesn't make a difference, as you'll see when we do my full review of our tower... Actually I think it makes it look nicer and adds to it's internal appearance as a displayed item (hence the reason why you have the window to begin with). But that's just my opinion. I did laugh though when he made that "looks like ass" comment. I thought that was funny...

                          enjoy the review...

                              Hey Aquax & Lsdmeasap:

Thanks for the input but when I followed your input (Aquax) my ram dropped to 1066 from 1560. I want to get to the max 1600MHz that I (actually need) because I'm rendering vids and need the RAM to do it's thing. Lowering the MHz on it only slows down that rendering process. Putting it back to "Profile1" brought it up to it's max of 1600MHz, but the system shut down, so I just put it back (for now) to my current set up so it's running at 4.09GHz for right now. Right now I'm installing the Indigo Xtreme, so this is going to be an all day process as I'm videoing the install as well...

BTW, Lsdmeasap, thanks for the input on the Uncore thing. I'll try it later and see what happens... Thanks to both of you for your help...

Lastly, although this is the "official" thread for the UD7 , it hasn't seen any activity for a whole month anyway. At least now, it is... I guess that's a good thing, and we're still talking about the UD7 anyway...
