there is 2 ways to fix your ram setting one is to enable XMP
the other is to set it manualy

System Memory Multiplier (SPD) = [12]
      Memory Freqency (Mhz) = 1600
DRAM timing selectable (SPD) = [auto]
      Profile DDR Voltage = 1.64V
      Profile QPI Voltage = 1.2V

so you think my issue is memory related and this would fix it?

Ok, so i have taken your lead and made the changes in bios.

The only difference is where you said "Profile DDR Voltage = 1.64V" the bios showed as "Profile DDR Voltage = 1.5V"
          ??

          Is that OK?

Did a boot and can see from the post screen memory is showing as 1600Mhz now rather than the old 1066Mhz.

I will have to wait until tomorrow morning when i switch the machine back on and see if this memory change was the root cause of my cold boot failure pain.

Did you see any other issues from the specs aside from the memory Judge-dredd? OR anyone?
I just want a stable running machine which doesnt give me BSOD :)

            QPI/Vtt Voltage 1.200v = [auto]try with anything from 1.2-1.3v
qpi clock ratio = Auto<-- set this to twice what your ram multiplier is then add one to it so 8xram will be 17x uncore freq ect
also one or two clicks on ioh core voltage will help with crossfire, not needed if its not causing problems
as for ram try with 1.64 first if no improvement put back to rams rated voltage but it should be fine

yes move your ram votage to 1.64 it will need that to run at 1600
              and set QPI to 1.255
if you plan on overclocking you will also need to raise the vcore
if its booting ok then i would change one more thing
Performance Enhance = [torbo] or Extreme i have mine set to extreme
what that does is tighten up timming on the ram

Hi, I'm a long time reader first time poster.

I've just built a new system and i'm having some serious issues...i'll try and explain

                System specs:

                GA-X58A-UD7
                I7 980x
                HIS 5970
                Corsair 1866C7 Dominator GT
                Gskill falcon 2 128gb
                Samsung 1tb
                Corsair HX1000

When powered on the system starts rebooting in a loop pre-post with various error codes like:

                Power on
                c1
                c1
                08
                6f
                c1
68 (was getting this code before the bios was flashed to f6 to support the 980x)
                Hang

                Manual reboot
                Repeated the above sequence
                Manual reboot

                c1
Some other codes that are too fast to see
                88
                Auto reboot

                c1
Some other codes that are too fast to see
                88
Auto reboot (sometimes it will get stuck in this loop, other times it will do it 4 or5 times and then boot)

                c1
                c1
                08
                6f
                c1
                68

It's a bit hit and miss but if i pull the power and leave it unplugged for a minute sometimes it will restart and boot into windows fine but most of the time it will just repeat a combination of the above.

I've re-seated the CPU and swapped the ram into different slots with not effect, re-seated the GPU and checked all power connections.
I've also tried flashing a few different bios versions (f4, f5, f6)...nothing seems to help.

I have tested each stick of ram seperatly in slot 2 and run memtest86+ for 4 hours on each stick.
I have also tested with a different graphics card.
The CPU can run 12 threads of prime95 for 12 hours without errors.

I have also tested the motherboard not installed in a case.

I've requested an RMA but i just wanted to check if there is anything i've missed or not tried.

                Thanks for your help :)

Give us your full settings in a template from my signature, it could just be your settings.

Of course you need to use the latest BIOS since you have 980x, that will solve the 68/6b POST Code freeze.

If you are not setting your own QPI/Vtt, Uncore multi, and Memory voltages this may be the only thing you need to do, auto generally is not going to be correct for all of those.

So if you had been using auto for everything you might want to hold off on RMA for a bit until we can look at your settings and give you some to try

did you test each ram stick one at a time in each white slot one at a time?? it will boot with one stick in any white slot if the ram/slot is working

Just did a Dry Ice session last night.

I didn't buy enough ice though (Store only had 10 pounds left), so ran out too quickly before I get get in to many benchmarks though. Spent more than half that messing with max Bclk, only to get the same as I could on water!

Seems there is a 8.8Ghz QPI wall, and QPI Slow mode is not working properly I dont think, not sure. I am talking with GIGABYTE Taiwan about that right now.

Anyhow, best I could do with the time and Ice I had on hand

                        Hi Lsdmeasap,

Thanks for the reply, much appreciated!

I was puzzled by the 68/6b error because it first appeared when i was running a bios that didn't support the 980x BUT the sequence i posted above with the 68/6b was ocouring while running f6 and f7h

                        Hi wazza300,

                        Thanks for replying as well!

I have tried the 3 sticks of ram separately in slot 2 (first white slot) and was able to run memtest86+ for 4 hours on each stick and 4 hours with all 3 slots populated.
I'll give it a shot in slot 4 and 6...it's worth a try but i think the cpu and ram are fine.

                        Here's the bios settings:

yes sorry if its booting into windows with one stick then its ok, try with loading optimized defaults , it will wipe any bios settings so make a note before you do it,and then clear cmos and try with all your ram settings left on auto

                            Hi wazza300,

I should have stated in my first post that after each bios flash i set optimized defaults and cleared cmos data. I also tried fail-safe defaults and cleared the cmos as well.

                            Cheers,

i cant think of what else it could be,have you inspected the cpu socket for any even slightly bent cpu pins? or any hairs or lint in the socket? be carefull not to damage anything when checking and dont let the cpu clamp shut when theres no chip installed as you might get thermal paste on the pins
