Try the -1 MCH Reference with 1.28v VTT, then higher.
Sometimes much higher VTT is needed, I've seen users with 1.4+, but try to keep it as low as possible tweaking the references.

      Re: Overclocking E8500 on EP45-DS3

My EP45-DS3/E8400 overclocks to 433Mhz with VTT, PLL and MCH @1.05V and that's it. ALso 500Mhz @ MCH Core 1.2V /it needs 1.16 only, 1.2 is just to be safe/ at this point only 1.05V Termination(VTT) and PLL is enough it really doesn't do anything touching those. EP45-DS3 is not like UD3, just set every voltages to normal and play with CPU and DRAM Voltages.

        With VCORE=1.4000V,CPU PLL=1.59V,MCH CORE=1.24V,DRAM VOLTAGE=2.180V,Timings=5-5-5-18
and tRd=10 I first run Prime95 custom test FFT=800K,if passed I run Blend test:

        VTT***CPU REF.*MCH REF.
        1.28V*0.810V***0.790V-After 5h.28m.failed on FFT=256K.
        1.30V*0.823V***0.803V-failed on FFT=800K.
        1.32V*0.836V***0.816V-failed on FFT=800K.
        1.34V*0.848V***0.828V-After 4h.26m.failed on FFT=160K
        1.36V*0.861V***0.841V-failed on FFT=800K.
        1.38V*0.874V***0.854V-failed on FFT=800K.
        1.40V*0.886V***0.866V-failed on FFT=800K.

The references may need to be changed with VTT, up or down, try both sides, including default.
Try 421 and 423 MHz FSB.

With the settings that gave you best results, try 50-100 CPU Clock Skew, then 50-100 MCH Clock Skew wth CPU Clock Skew 0.
They should not be needed, but never hurt to try.

Was it prime95 stable? Try to run prime95 with those settings.
MCH Core and VTT are only 1.2v according to ET6 in post #64 but CPU PLL is 1.65.
