    Re: Overclocking E8500 on EP45-DS3

I tried runnig linx like 10 times or so, with different vcore [1.250-1.300] and it failed every single time. Then I tried with ibt only with vcore at 1.300V and succeeded on standard but failed on maximum. should I try to adjust anything else besides vcore?
    Results of linx & ibt:

      Re: Overclocking E8500 on EP45-DS3

GFlops looks OK at 24.9 IBT and 25.6 LinX, no need for vcore higher than that give those results.
tRD 8 should be ok, but maybe need to be higher, try 9.
Try ram at 2.12-2.16v, try MCH Core 1.24v and 1.28v, try VTT 1.26v.

I am not familiar with dirt2, how do you mean twiches?
I run DDR-800 with CAS 7 at 400MHz FSB bur i saw an early rebiew they required CAS 8 so I figured maybe CAS 5 may require 9.
What are core tems during IBT?
          Have you ran Prime95 blend?

Are you possibly running Dirt2 with game settings that are too high for you 5670 video card?

Dirt2 is a game, settings are standard, at least I think so. By twitching I mean that the picture freezes, not full but enough to make it hard to play. Core temps during IBT were max. 65. Just finished Prime95 blend test, I left it over 2 hours to run and there was no errors or warnings.

                Re: Overclocking E8500 on EP45-DS3

While reading video card reviews/benchmarks, it's clear that game settings have a major influence on game visual quality and "playability". Dirt2 appears to be one of the more demanding games that is frequently used in upper mid level to top tier video card reviews.

With the gpu benchmarks that I've run so far, game setup options have a major effect on game smoothness/performance and visual quality where low, medium, high or ultra settings have a major impact on overall performance.

In a recent test, I lowered my screen resolution from 1920 x 1080 to 1600 x 900 where my Heaven benchmarks improved by 20% or more. The tests were run using DX9, DX10 and DX11, where the DX11 tests ran with tessellation settings = disabled, moderate, normal and extreme.

My old 7600GT video card struggled to run anything more demanding than watching high quality videos.

                    Re: Overclocking E8500 on EP45-DS3

Your E8500 can often o/c to 4.20GHz and higher.
Your current ram will hinder your overall performance somewhat.
For gaming, your video card will be the greatest obstacle to game play using higher screen resolutions and/or high quality settings, especially with DX11 games. **correction** Your 5670 supports DX11 games.

Check out http://forums.tweaktown.com/video-ca...g-results.html, where I use the Heaven benchmark to show the different results when testing with DX9, DX10, and DX11.

For reference, the GTX 460 MSI Hawk performs at a similar lever to a 5770 CrossFire setup.

Let us know if you want to overclock to a higher level.

                        Re: Overclocking E8500 on EP45-DS3

For a start see if you can set multiplier to 9.5 for 3.8GHz, hopefully nothing more than a bit more vcore will be needed.
After you got this stable try to puhs FSB, with a little luck you can get 4GHz without increasing CAS.

How high vcore have you tried at 4GHz? try 411MHz FSB for 3.9GHz.
Max VID range for your CPU is 1.3625v, and absolute max specified by Intel is 1.45v, so do not be afraid to set up to 1.3625 or a bit more.
Myabe 2.18v DRAM Volrage, and 1.28v VTT.
The are some other tweaks possible, namely CPU Rference and MCH Reference that help using lower VTT.and/or vcore. Those are more "tricky" to set so we'll try them if the above alone is not enough.

What are core temps and core voltage during IBT, and core voltage at idle?
Actually you may lbe able to lower some of them, but test Prime95 first and get a stable setting then try lower VTT, MCH Core and DRAM Voltage, but all are in acceptable range.
You can save different BIOS profile by pressing F11 at main BIOS screen, and later restore them (F12).
Run to see how ram performance are like.
