  • Re: Haswell Overclocking Guides / Results

Some things I have noticed with my board may cross over to there boards but here are some voltage read outs I have seen while overclocking. These settings were done with LLC set to Extreme

    Code:
                          Bios Dmm full load

    Vcore 1.2v-1.35v 0.01v-0.15v Higher
                          1.35v+ 0.02v+ Higher
                          1.330v 1.344v

    vRing 1.170v 1.189v

This is what I have tested/seen so far. But look at vcore the closer you get to 1.4v the more the board over volts. Cpuz 1.64.0 and higher seem to show correct vcore at full load compared to a dmm but only 1.64.0 for me show correct idle voltage.

Also noticed when setting fixed voltage for vring with all power saving options enabled in bios vring will also drop low along with uncore speed at idle.

Think I am going to settle on this as my 24/7 overclock. Gflops are a little low on this run most test were around 138-139ish.

GTL does not show tras when set to 32 in bios and cmd is t1 not t3 like GTL show.

              • Re: Haswell Overclocking Guides / Results

I could not make LinX with Linpack 10.3.10.017 work. Nor would LinX with Linpack 11.0.1.05 work. So I downloaded the newest Linpack (w_lpk_p_11.0.5.009.zip) from Intel.

I copied libiomp5md.dll to the LinX folder. I removed the existing linpack_xeon32.exe and linpack_xeon64.exe from the LinX folder and replaced them with the same files from the Linpack distribution folder. Now the modified LinX works . . . and it gets my CPU so hot that the temps go into the 90's and some hit 100 and are throttled.

Before straightening out LinX AVX I replaced my heatsink, since it didn't seem to require an NH-D14 to carry off the heat, since there was not much heat getting to the IHS to carry off. I looked at my TIM pattern from my first seating, and note that the TIM did not reach the corners. So this time I put down an Armageddon, and used an X pattern for the TIM. I also had enough play to twist the heatsink, really smear the TIM. The result is that with plain vanilla LinX I'm getting a max of 85c, when with my first seating I got 91c on plain LinX.

So LinX + AVX is much much hotter, at least at the 85-plus temp range.

Now I have to decide whether I will ever approach this level in my daily use. Will, for example, manipulating a graphic cause my CPU to overheat? If so, I will have to scale back my overclock from 4.7GHz to 4.6, or less, with matching reductions of Voltages.

Or should I leave it at 4.7?

What OS are you running. For me 10.3.10.017 is the latest version that will work on win7 for me. 11.0.x should/will work on win7.

On win7 anything newer then 10.3.10.017 will run 1 run and then just end.

Hmm. On my new rig, I have to kill it before it will finish even one run. Maybe I'll try a non-OC boot and see what results.

                    Oh, and I'm on Win7-64 SP1.

I quite agree. Delidding would solve my temperature problem. But I'm not going to delid this.

Given that, I need to decide to go with a low multi and low Vcore, or go with 47x and trust I will never cook as hard as Linpack with AVX can push a cpu? I dropped to 45x with Vcore = normal + 0.08v. I still get 100c on some cores. With Vcore = normal + 0.07v the system crashes when I try to run LinX with AVX.

Tomorrow I'll try with the system not OC'd. Will LinX+AVX be OK? Or will that push the cores to 100c?

Ok can someone else with haswell and win8 test linx? For what ever reason no version from 11.0 is working for me in win8. I know 11.0.1.005 was working but now is not. Win8 fully updated, clear cmos so total stock settings linpack crashes. 11.0.2 - 11.0.3 and 11.0.5 stop on error after first round.

Update: I tried LinX with Linpack 11.0.5.009 in a Win7-64 non-OC'd environment. It put out one rep with 161.4 GFlops, then stopped on error in the second rep. Temps were reasonable -- 67c on hottest core. Now I have to go back to linpack 10.3 and see if it will work.
