Put some of the high temp sealant on them. Actually when I delid this time I'm going to reseal the IHS, so it couldn't hurt to drop a little on the exposed transistors and let it dry before applying the Liquid Pro, huh?

          Re: Haswell Is Coming,Who's Upgrading?

@Stasio, I am planning to delid my 3770k and I was going to use stiff foam to hold down the "naked" CPU and get good contact on the socket, but this ASUS toy is much neater, do you know if it can be purchased on it's own and where from?

                Re: Haswell Is Coming,Who's Upgrading?

Thanks for that Stasio, but I am worried that if all the pressure is applied on the naked die there might not be good contact with the socket pins towards the edges if the PCB on the CPU bends slightly, hence wanting to apply pressure on the perimeter too... That gadget on the picture you linked is ideal ;)

those pins have some flex,so you should be fine regarding pin contact imo

I can always give it a shot I guess... is just that I had issues in the past with the memory banks when contact was less than perfect...

Will keep my eyes peeled :) the "hammer" delidding makes it more appealing, I was always worried about the blade after bricking a trusty i920...

Funny that you should mention that.
I just finished viewing a hammer de-lidding video at [How To] Delid your Ivy Bridge CPU with out a Razor Blade!.
I think that it would be safer and easier if the wooden block was hardwood and not the less expensive softwood. But....the softwood approach will absorb more of the shock.

I wonder what the success rate is with the hammer/wood technique versus using a knife or razor blade.
I already have a dead blow hammer so that is what I would use. Dead blow hammer - Wikipedia
I really don't want to FUBAR a brand new $350 cpu.

                          Other observations:
Some of the z87 mobos are using Marvell or ASMedia sata3 and usb 3.0 configurations.
The mobo that I buy must have at least 4 native Intel sata3 and usb 3.0 ports.
An older PCI slot for my HT Omega audio card would be nice, but I must be able to install my SLI video cards. ASRock Extreme6 z87?
Computer cases that I'm currently considering:

                              The keyword is native Intel.
I don't want to deal with UDF poop from non-Intel sata and usb controllers.
Ideally there will be 6 native Intel sata3 and 6 native Intel usb 3.0 ports.
If there are even more available ports, I don't care if the remaining ports use non-Intel controllers.

UDF = Unintentioned Design Features, aka bugs, quirks, problems, issues

Here is an example of "mongrel" controller information from the GA-Z87X-UD5H rev 1.0 user manual:
(One pleasant surprise, there weren't any cautionary notes or footnotes stating that if you enable item A, item B is disabled. This is a welcome improvement compared with P55 to Ivy Bridge systems.)
