    Re: Overclocking DDR3 Kingston HyperX14 P45 chipset Gigabyte EP45T-DS3 with E8600

As I recall, Psycho101 regularly has dual boots with his stable, overclocked system. Apparently this is normal for some, but not all systems.

SuperPi result looks nice. Have you tried tRD 7 yet?

I get dual boots when I don't shut down the PC cleanly, e.g. if it freeze and I use the power button to force shut down or reboot using the reset.

I recall LSDmeasap once said dual boots are ok.
      Please post full BIOS settings.
System shuts down fine but when it starts it dual boots but not all the time. No, I haven't tried tRD 7 yet. I am trying to lower tRFC for now and then I will try tRD 7. I wonder if the MCH will handle tRD 7 properly in this speed. I have run prime95 twice for about 2 and a half hours each. Further testing is required but I think it would be fine!

It just might, or it won't, never know untill you try, your CAS is pretty low, maybe with a little more MCH Core it will.

Normally a longer period, 9-12 hours at least is required with such high OC. The different FFT sizes used create different access patterns, the more you run with no error more likely you are stable. Of course it is up to you to decide what stable is for you.

          ^^^^I agree.
I don't feel comfortable until I've run all three Prime95 tests for 24 hours each.
If I haven't reached my "final" overclock goals, I cheat a bit by only running each test for 12 hours.
I'm not willing to risk file or data corruption.

            Re: Overclocking DDR3 Kingston HyperX14 P45 chipset Gigabyte EP45T-DS3 with E8600

I run edmark vantege Performance test and my computer shutted down twice at the exact spot. After finishing first GPU test! I have two ATI Radeon 4850 in CrossfireX nad logged my temps and were at 72C which is not considered high for these GPUs...
Today is at 26C room temperature though!

EDIT: I thought to try and raise MCH voltage one notch to 1.24v since it is responsible for the PCI-Express databus too. I also raised PCI-E frequency to 102. After that I succesfully passed 3d Vantage! P11753. GPU: 13244 points / CPU 8786 points!

EDIT2: Nop, still my pc shuts down completely in 3dmark Vantage. GPU temps are not too high... I raised mch and vtt a little but the same thing happens. Is it PSU related? Or it is a gpu heat related issue?

We can best help you if you post your current bios settings and the requested screen-shot from post #30.

As I recall, you were previously running with higher than recommended memory volts.

Voltages are as recommended by you guys. I have lower them.
It's so weird. 3dMark Vantage fails even when it loads the test before it executes it! I run it 8 times, only one time was executed fully. I also run furmark and STALKER Call of Pripyat Benchmark and are executed fine. I have updated Vantage to latest version and I am using Catalyst 9.12.

I mentioned the voltage because the memory specs are:
                  1800MHz at 9-9-9-27 at 1.65V and
                  1333Mhz at 9-9-9 at 1.5V

Have you tried testing with only one video card?
Your psu should be capable of reliably powering your dual video cards. Can you borrow another psu to test with?
Have you overclocked your dual 4850 video cards?

Ram is now 1.68v under load and 1.70 idle.I passed 5 hours Blend test and 4 hours Memtest doing 7 passes. I was stable! Should I lower RAM Vcore a little. I think there is something to do with the cards... They aren't overclocked. I changed slots to see if that does anything. I am trying again, now.

EDIT: for your OC I'd run at least 9 hours Prime95 blend.

After changing slots and updating to latest drivers the exact same thing continues to happen. A did one clean pass with vantage and when I retry it completely shutted down while loading shaders and creating from hard disk... It's driving me crazy. Maybe I should raise ICH I/O to 1.57v. I am out of ideas.
Anyway tomorrow I will leave it for 10 hours Blend test with prime and see the results...
                        Any reccomendations?
PS: Thanks anyway guys for your helpful advice. Without you I wouldn't have succeeded to come that far!! P45 is nasty!

Have you tried it with a single video card installed?
You could try one step up ICH I/O, how many hard drives/DVD ROMs/USB devices you have connected?

No, I haven't tried a single card. I will tomorrow. Currently I have one hard disk 40 Gbytes which I use for testing overclocking and one DVD-RW. Otherwise I use one WD Caviar Blavk 6401 AALS 640Gb and one WD Caviar Black 320AAKS 320Gb with the same DVD-RW. It really doesn't make sense to shut down when loading files... My PSU is fully capable of handling 2 4850s...

Well, I tried one card and everything was ok. Updated to latest drivers and Crossfired again and the same thing keeps happening to 3dMark Vantage only... When it loads a random test it forces the computer to shutdown. I tried 3dMark06 and STALKER Call of Pripyat benchmark and everything are running smooth. Even Furmark 1.80 has no problem at all. I will try some games and see what happens! I think there is something to do with Vantage under Windows Seven...

                                Re: Overclocking DDR3 Kingston HyperX14 P45 chipset Gigabyte EP45T-DS3 with E8600

EDIT: I thought to try and raise MCH voltage one notch to 1.24v.....
See if MCH Core = 1.26 or 1.28 helps with your CrossFire setup.
Most DDR2 4GB setups that I've seen use these higher MCH Core settings in the upper 400MHz or higher FSB range.
                                ICH I/O = 1.57 might help.

I don't recall seeing any EP45 setups that were stable with tRD = 7 with FSB higher than about 420MHz. If you try it, the worst that will happen is that your system won't boot or won't be stable.
