  • Overclocking DDR3 Kingston HyperX14 P45 chipset Gigabyte EP45T-DS3 with E8600

Hi guys! I was searching very thoroughly the last month in order to get as much information as I could regarding P45 chipset and DDR3 settings!! I have tried literally a million settings and I am not a noob either! It drives me crazy!!
Here is my story and anyone that has experience from Intel P45 Chipset is welcome to give me some advice! Its settings are a lot different than my older P35 board!

Previously I had my E8600 ovelclocked to 4.3 GHz without strain in my previous Gigabyte p35c-ds3r motherboard and paired with ram ddr2 5-5-5-15 1033Mhz but I wanted to upgrade to this EP45T-ds3 with 2x2Gb DDR3 HyperX 14400D3T1K3 (1800Mhz at 9-9-9-27 rating) support and crossfire (2 cards HD4850).

The most "stable" settings that I could achieve is:
    FSB: 420 (it gives 4200MHz)
    CPU Termination: 1,30v
    CPU PLL: 1.50v

    MCH Voltage: 1.24v
    RAM Vcore: 1.90v
    RAM Timings: 8-8-8-24-78
    Static tREAD: 9

Help guys!! Only you can help me out!

      Thanks Chike!
These settings are the best that manage to do a 52 Minutes of Prime Blend test and then it failed. It is strange because my memory currently runs at 1344Mhz (11MHz only above stock) and still I am not able to make it completely stable... Here they are:

Please post the screen captures requested, and fill you forum signature with system specs.
        Which FFT size fail?
I could not find the memory model ou posted.
MCH Reference usually need to bee tweaked at high FSB. This is done against default VTT 1.2v http://forums.tweaktown.com/f69/how-...asytune-29746/. Try set it lower, step at a time and see if it helps.
By adjusting MCH/CPU References you may also be able to use lower VTT.

Note that your ram only need 1.65v yo operate at DDR-1800, you shouldn't need much more than that.

Yeah, but P45 requires additional voltage I think. I 'll try to lower it then. I have also tried some Mch Reference voltages with no success. I 've searched th internet and I couldn't find a known Termination and MCH voltage. I have tried a million settings. I am at "only" 420 FSB... I had seen some people clocking the RAM to 2000MHz with low latencies stable and I can't even do a proper 1344MHz!! I tried 1400MHz 1600 no boot and 1680 with no success no matter what CPU termination and Mch voltage used.

Blend (CPU and RAM) test is failing me in prime while Small Ftts (CPU) is fine!

IMO 1.20-1.26 VTT is all you need, and MCH Reference 1-3 ticks lower than default.

Maybe the B strap multiplier is part of the issue. Try XMP profile1, SMM 3.33D, all timings on auto, DRAM Voltage 1.65-1.7v.

Ok I 'll try that. mch reference by default you mean 1-3 ticks lower than .760?? XMP profile 1 (and only) tries to set 1800MHz and it doesn't boot of course! Let you know!

Yes lower then 0.76 when VTT is set to 1.2, read the link in post #4, also explained more simple http://forums.tweaktown.com/f69/ep45...tml#post344535.

It can try all it want, with 420FSB it can only set it as high as 1680 but I also said SMM(system memory multiplier) 3.33D, this should tesult in 1400 and CAS 7.

Oh yes! You are right off course! Here is an update. I have just finished prime95 Blend Test running for 1 hour without errors. That's my best.
I used 1.66 Ram vcore, 1.26 CPU Termination and 1.34 MCH core!!
I am doing another run of prime to make sure and then I am gonna tru your settings! Thanks!

MCH Reference left it to auto! (I am afraid of it a little!) After I finish the second run I will lower MCH voltage to test it because you are probaly right, it is too much! At last I found a sweet spot.
I had tried RAM Vcore this low but with higher MCH and CPU Termination voltages and wasn't stable off course!

Usually not more than 1,26v MCH Core is needed for 4GB at your current FSB.
There is nothing to fear of Reference voltages, just follow the instructions on how to set them in the links I have posted.

EDIT: http://www.edgeofstability.com/artic.../gtl/gtl1.html explains the role of CPU Reference.

Well, I tried 1344MHz: 1,26 VTT, 1,26 AND 1,30 MCH voltage with 1.66 RAM vcore and both failed in one hour. MCH reference is auto.
I will try to get 1400MHz stable with 8-8-8-24. Any suggestions?
