    Re: Overclocking DDR3 Kingston HyperX14 P45 chipset Gigabyte EP45T-DS3 with E8600

    In these settings I run:
Blend Test 1st time run for 2 hours and the I stopped it
2nd time run for 2 minites and then error
3rd time run for 1 hour and 15 minutes and then stopped with an error.

    • which Prime95 test was running
    • what is the elapsed time of the error
    • FFT size
    • type of error, e.g. rounding error, etc.
Temps were normal. System temp 37C, both cores were at 58C.
    Info regarding Prime (Orthos actually!!):

      Re: Overclocking DDR3 Kingston HyperX14 P45 chipset Gigabyte EP45T-DS3 with E8600

Try one step down MCH Reference:
      Set VTT(CPU Termination) to 1.2v
      Set MCH Reference 0.74
      Set VTT back to 1.24v

If you still getting error try the same procedure with 0.72 MCH Reference.

Setting CPU PLL 1.57 may help regardless of the MCH settings.

I am still in the opinion you can use less DRAM Voltage, if you get this stable, try lower 1.65-1.7v.
Also timings 7-7-7-22@1400 are equivalent to 9-9-9-27@1800 and also should be possible. But wait till you get the system stable with current timings.

UPDATE: I did use these settings you mention and I was able to run prime95 Blend test for 2 hours and 35 minutes without an error.
I used 1400MHz 8-8-8-24-80 timings at first which was stable(as I mentioned above) and now I am testing 1400MHz 7-7-7-22-78 timings and until now (50 minutes blend test) evereything running smooth!
I cannot believe it! It's a huge step but still I have a lot to do!!

PS: performance gain from 8-8-8 to 7-7-7 was zero, I don't know why but the thing is to become stable!! I will add an EVEREST Memory benchmark screenshot later.

Part of my benchmarking includes testing the integrity of a 5GB zip file and time how long it takes to complete. I avoid unzipping the file because hard drive disk writes would make it harder to see improvements.

Using lower CAS will enable you to set lower tRD, 8 or even 7, and this will result in better memory performance.

Can you post your latest settings in your thread along with screen capture of EasyTyne voltages and MemSet main window?
And BTW what are your core temperatures under Prime95?
Core temps under load with prime are 58-59C! I will a post a screen capture a little later after I finish 2 hours Blend test that I am doing at the moment!
I managed to be completely stable under Prime Blend test for 4 hours totally and did 3 passes in MemTest86!

PS1: You were right about tRD. I tightened it to 8 and gain some performance!

PS2: When I cold boot my machine it starts for a second, then shuts down and starts again normally. Is it PSU related?? It is a little strange! Have you experienced it before?

You may be a little low on vcore with LLC disabled, Make 5 runs of IBT(IntelBurnTest) at max stress level and post the results. At your current OC my estimate is ~28GFlops give or take 0.5GFlops, if they are significantly lower more Vcore is need.

You can experiment this without rebooting, by using EasyTune, increasing voltage 2 ticks each time and apply it(click "set"), and when you find the right settings reboot and set it in BIOS.

Core temps may get much higher than Prime95, 70-75c keep an eye on them during the test.

You are very close with your guesses!! Unbelievable! This is my current settings:

This pic is taken before changing tRD from 9 to 8. So in this pic tRD is 9! I am also near 28 GFlops!

When I set it to 8 I did gain some performance and got to 9000MB/sec READ!

Not a guess really, estimate based on results I seen before.

I don't think memory performance effect IBT that much, they might effect SuperPi which results look good if compared to those here. Did you try tRD 7?

And what are core temps with IBT do you remember?

With IBT my cores hit 73 C!!
Yup, I know that IBT affects only memory related benchmarks. I was speaking generally! 27.8 GFlops seems well enough!

No, I didn't test tRD 7. My goal is to hit 4.3 GHz with 7-7-7-20 1440MHz if I will be able to! Temps are a little high and in my previous board (P35C-DS3R) my CPU at 4.3 GHz was under 60C under load. Guess that Arctic Silver 5 had made a difference. Now I am using Arctic Cooling MX-2, I thought that it was a little better.

Not bad at all I get the same at 3.6GHz :-(

Yes leave tRD alone till you done with FSB/CPU OC.

Under the same load with IBT?
It is possible that your actual performance (e.g. GFlops) are better and that means heat.
MX-2 is supposed to be better, not by that much though, 0.5-1c according to Arctic.

I get dual boots when I don't shut down the PC cleanly, e.g. if it freeze and I use the power button to force shut down or reboot using the reset.

I recall LSDmeasap once said dual boots are ok.
                                Please post full BIOS settings.
