Re: GA-EP45-UD3P - Won't boot with 450FSB
Cheers P, I upped the FSB to 456, it booted fine and ran Prime for about 45mins before worker one failed so this morning I upped the VCore one notch and restarted it.

Re: GA-EP45-UD3P - Won't boot with 450FSB
Well if you want to make things easier on yourself, and be able to use better timings I would stick with 450 FSB so your ram is at 900. Then you should be able to do 444-12 once you find the proper MCH/MCH Ref/Vtt/Ram voltage combo

Re: GA-EP45-UD3P - Won't boot with 450FSB
I have a similar setup...
Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P (rev 1.1) BIOS F9
Zerotherm Z120 cooler
Crucial Balistix PC6400 2x2G
Intel E8500 E0 Stepping
I am easily able to get above 500fsb. I'm still playing but here is what I'm using, and I'm sure I could go farther.

I know that my system can handle a 500FSB.. I wish to hit 4 to 4.1Ghz
4100 / 9.5 = 432Mhz..
4100 / 9.0 = 455Mhz
4100 / 8.5 = 482Mhz
4100 / 8.0 = 512Mhz
4100 / 7.0 = 585Mhz
Now I start playing with memory and System Memory Multipliers to see what let's me get to at least 432 on the FSB and my memory as fast as it will go. I try and keep the CPU multiplier as high as possible since when my machine is idling it automatically drops the multiplier to 6.0.. So I personally want the diff to be large to save more power. I'm weird.Last edited by devoh; 05-18-2009, 01:34 PM.Antec P180 case

Have you tried IntelBurn test?? It REALLY stresses the CPU and memory. I have gone away from Prime95. IntelBurn Test will find in minutes what Prime95 takes hours to see.
The author claims IntelBurn Test uses the same code that Intel uses to test their chips. It causes my CPU temps to raise over 7 degrees higer that running Prime95.Last edited by devoh; 05-18-2009, 01:46 PM.Antec P180 case

IBT is the first test I run.
IntelBurn Test will find in minutes what Prime95 takes hours to see.
Prime95, OCCT, and Orthos have caught errors that IBT "missed" when running 10 or more IBT loop tests.Q9650 @ 4.10GHz [9x456MHz]

Re: GA-EP45-UD3P - Won't boot with 450FSB
Agreed with profJim about IBT not being fool proof.
I have actually run 50 (fifty) itterations of IBT, all residual <norm> values matching, only to have Prime Large FFT fall over after ~25-30 minutes. 50 iterations at max stress on IBT can take 30-40 minutes.
IBT is a good stress test, but I prefer to use it as a cooling check rather than just plain stability. Prime Large FFT has always been the most difficult thing for me to pass on any system, including an AMD X2 DDR-500 platform, a 65nm Core 2 Duo and my current Core 2 Quad. Use what you're comfortable with though and what you think best. As long as you test with a variety of programs, you'll eventually find any instability.
I'm liking the results devoh is getting, confirms my belief that this board is as good as if not better than many X48 boards out there.
If you can get at least 533 FSB stable, with a nice CPU over clock, that would be the ultimate. You'd have RAM running at its rated speed, with no multiplier possibly introducing extra latency. It seems a little different than what I believe D-an-W's goal is, however I may be wrong.
One thing I've learned from overclocking on my UD3P is that although you may be stable with say x reference voltages at y Vcore with z FSB, to go higher or sometimes even lower, you need to completely re-do your x, and y voltages. It can be enough to make your brain ache at times, but it's interesting and fun non the less.
Lsdmeasap's idea of a nice stable CPU and tight 4-4-4-12 might be sweet to run. Give it a go if you get frustrated trying to push the CPU, or even try it now if you desire.
Writing this has inspired me. I have taken mental note of how best to set up a Dual core, including useful tips on maxing FSB. I may just do a blow-by-blow of my E7300 overclock when it arrives (if it's not DOA... eBay can be uncertain).Coolermaster CM 690 II advance Case

Re: GA-EP45-UD3P - Won't boot with 450FSB
I have same MB and a E8500 E0 stepping... What was your method for getting to 4.1G stable? ie How did you increment up? I'm stable @ a 500FSB.. so with my 9.5 max multiplier I'm hoping to hit 4.1 to 4.2. Would love to follow how you did it. I get so lost when guessing what volt to raise. Did you have a set method?
Thanks
