Thanks for posting the latest BIOS's Stasio, I've been looking for something like this.
stasio: Do you work for Gigabyte? I'm also an evga customer and use their huge forum for tech support/info. Is there such a forum for Gigabyte info? or is this it? lol.
I just flashed to F4e and: There were a couple of problems I had with F3 which seem to still be in F4e.
I don't know if this is the right place to post this but:
- In order to set RAM to 9-9-9-24 (checked via CPU-Z 1.48), I have to enter 8-9-9-24
- The "QPI Link speed" needs a lower Multiplier then 36!
28 and 20 would be good . Right now my BCLK is at 200, and the lowest QPI I can select is 7.2 G . That's really high, and I'd rather keep it closer to 4.8.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not complaining, just trying to make this great board better :). And this QPI multi is really a limit to OC'ing further...
By the way, even in Everest 4.6 it reads 10-9-9-24 if I set 9-9-9-24 in the BIOS. This is not a big issue though, since I'm running stable whether the ram is @ C8, 9 or 10....
I went back to F3 in the quest for a good 24/7 "low power/heat settings"
CPU @ 3.46/3.63 (173 x 20/21)
-F3: CPU Voltage auto (1.245/1.20/1.04 Bios/load/idle), C1E works
-F4e CPU Voltage auto (1.39/1.34/1.36 Bios/load/idle), C1E does not work
I have to leave my voltage on auto for C1E to work, so back to F3...
Crap, I was looking everywhere for newer bios, did not know they were listed here! Found via google.
The author of cpuz is trying to get Cas corrected, it is bug in cpuz, I sent him some dumps as did others, should be corrected soon.
By the way, Gigabyte nice job on quality board with GB X58 Ex!! no problem getting 4ghz (with turbo enabled for 4.2 single core) prime small ffts stable 9hrs. Small learning curve since all new, but love the board!
I agree about QPI, nice to keep that at stock 6.4 or lower, no benefit on desktops to higher...need more multis, like 48, 36, 32, 28, 24, 20.
btw...did I say I love the board!
Edit: holy crap, some timings/volts or something must have changed dramatically in F4E. F3 I am prime, linpack, memtest stable. Using F4E, barely got it to boot after few tries w/exact same settings. Prime caused immediate reboot. back to F3, booted right up w/same settings, priming away. Think I will wait on F4 until done.
I copied my sig from xtremesystems, has all in there. I am using OCZ gold rated 1600 8,8,8,24 1.65v, but running 8x182, 1456 at 1.62v, 10x182 only other option...need 9 mem divider for 1638 that would be perfect.
+1 for 9 mem divider.
It would be nice to run the ram closer to rated speed with a mid OC.
And I noticed something else with F3:
Computer will crash at POST and restart, if I lower the uncore clock multi.
Whether OC'd or at stock, I can't choose x12 or x14 without crashing for example.
I'm sure it's something that'll be fixed in new Bios's. It might even be fixed in F4f ^^.
Stasio: how is testing going :) ? Any of the F3 bugs fixed?
To recap BIOS "Bugs" for F3:
-QPI multi too high (need 28 and 20)
-9x mem multi (right now only x8 - x10)
-Uncore multi = crashing when lowered to minimum
