  • How to factory reset IPMI configuration without GUI

    Hi there.

    E3C224 board here.

I don't know what happened, but after changing the IP address of the IPMI dedicated network port; I can now ping the board just fine, but web interface is now dead.

Probing the IP address, I can see that the telnet and ssh ports are open, nothing else; and that's all I can access.

I thought I would simply do a factory reset. Unfortunately, all the documentations I've managed to find give the instructions on how to do so via the GUI.

But I can't access the GUI!

Anyone know of a way to reset the IPMI configuration to factory default? either by playing with a jumper on the motherboard or using the telnet/ssh interface (CLI) ?

I tried resetting the BIOS, removed the battery and shorten the CLRCMOS2 pins ; cold reset; the lot.

    just no go.

I tried changing the IP address in the UEFI/BIOS settings, but while that does change the IP address, I still don't have access to any gui...

Must have hit a bug in that ipmi chip

    Thanks in advance
    JY

I am also looking to reset IPMI configuration without GUI. If you could post the steps you took, it would be greatly appreciated.

Same problem here. IPMI is becoming flaky lately. I have to do power cycle (the real power) to get IPMI working.

Re: How to factory reset IPMI configuration without GUI

I managed to lock myself out of the gui. I was disabling IPMI on the intel lan on my E3C224D4I-14S and wanted to keep it only on the dedicated realtek adapter. I was disabling services and I thought I disabled http/https access on the correct interface. I managed to do something wrong and now the login page does not even pull up. Only the realtek has an ip when the server is not booted so I did this partially right. I can log in remotely using ipmitool. I issued the command 'mc reset cold' which seems to only reset the admin password. I can not see the services with ipmitool to re-enable http/https and I can not find the correct raw codes to reset it to the factory defaults. I have tried configuring the other channel using with dhcp and a static ip. It errors out and the ip stays at 0.0.0.0 and it has no mac address. Please advise how I can default this preferably with ipmitool. thanks. I do not know why I have to constantly dig around for what I need to manage this board when other server board manufacturers have this info readily available.

                            Hi All,

Same problem as above. I locked myself out of the IPMI by changing the network settings. Tried "ipmicfg -fd" and firmware update over "ipmiutil" without success.
Only option i know of to regain control is a BMC factory reset. Board is: E3C226D2I. Can PM serial/other info.

Please help with guiding on factory reset!

                            Best,
                            Bob-freenas

                              Hello there !

I've locked myself out of my system too (C2550D4I).
I wanted to change the admin password and (I think that's what caused the lockout) entered a 100-something bit password into the system. It was only when I accepted the changes that it dawned on me that the "20 bit" checkbox was there for a reason (more complex passwords don't get stored right, I guess), but it was too late.

I tried getting in with part of the entered password and (of course) with the full one, but no luck.
And, of course, I never configured any mail in the system.

Can somebody point me towards a reset maneuver ?
