Nope, just can't get back into Windows after setting the SSD to AHCI.
Got the the new SSD on the way, got a good price + coupon. Maybe switching to a SATA3 SSD will do the trick. If not, I'm pretty much done with the mobo and it's going back. Not to mention the hardware still won't shut down.

dont you have to reg tweak raid back from 0 to 3? then reg tweak ahci from a 3 to 0? then reboot into bios set to ahci in bios/reboot? i think your bios is having issues with that make/model ssd in ahci mode

No Wazza, you can set all three to zero and leave them like that, then switch between each of them anytime you want.

Zero enables booting from any of the three, no need to ever change them once you edit the first time around, that's why I always just post the full list of three to change for all users.

@ Boondocks, your wife will be happy at least, so you know that's always a bonus!

Are you SURE you are using an Intel port for this SSD, and you made the changes in the registry we mentioned (All three)?

OK I will list the most recent exploits.
I made the registry tweaks. This mobo only has 5 SATA ports, BTW, 2xSATA3 & 4XSATA2. No extra Marvell controller I know of. Z68 Motherboard Series Manufacturing - ASRock Inc.
Ive tried the SSD in ports 0,1,2,3.
Previously I was successful using the SSD only when BIOS set to RAID.
When after booting up after OS install, registry tweaks, etc, and resetting the BIOS to AHCI, Windows will not access the drive. I've been through this process several times.

What I did yesterday:
Pulled the SSD and placed in another machine and used Parted Magic to erase the drive, then update the firmware and format the drive.
Put the SSD back in the target machine and now it's not recognized at all in either the SATA3 or SATA2 ports, no matter if the BIOS is set to IDE, RAID or AHCI.

Plus the machine will not power down after exiting Windows. Yes the default action when power button is pushed is set to power down. Well, when the SSD was working, anyway. I had this same problem when the WD drive was the OS drive as well.

I'll add that although I should have, I did not reset CMOS on the last SSD reinstall. Not sure that would have helped as I always recheck all the BIOS options after every change I make.

SSD or OS drive should go into SATA 0 (So first SATA6Gb/s port on the board, against the PCB most likely if stacked).

I'll check your PM in one second about the power down command I sent you, hopefully that works!

With the SSD connected, what does it show up as in Disk Management (diskmgmt.msc in run box)? Can you right click on the very left and choose initialize?

LSD, the SSD is not being recognized. The drive is now empty except for updated firmware and formatting. (reread my last post please) and I no longer have Windows installed on the WD drive either.
I will go and try again, I just jumpered the CMOS and I will see what it's doing this morning.

EDIT: my bad loose connection I must have jiggled something last night under the drive cage. Windows installing in RAID mode on SSD.

lsd is that what you use to 4k align a disk?(Diskpart > Create Partition Primary Align=1024)
im complete noob when it comes to this

Windows installed on SSD while RAID set.
Registry edits made.
Set BIOS to AHCI = Windows won't start (BSOD then reboot)

you might aswell run it in raid for the time being,i still say its bios issue with ahci,it should work fine imo

I guess you're right. I have another SSD coming today, maybe that will fix it, maybe not.

Still got the shutdown problems. I tried LSD's suggestion and from the run command: shutdown /s/f but nothing happens but a DOS window opens and closes real quick.

About checking the disk alignment, looks good. I used this:
In windows 7, run msinfo32 by typing it into the search box on your start menu and hitting enter.
click on: components => storage => disks
Look for your SSD and check the partition starting offset.
It needs to be divisible by 4096 (ie return a whole number when you divide by this) otherwise the alignment is not correct.

partition offset = 1,048,576 -So- 1048576/4096 = 256 (no decimal)

EDIT: Had switches wrong for shutdown. Used shutdown -s -f and Windows shuts down but hardware remains running.

thanks for that,i dont think ive aligned mine correctly,ive never had to mess before, i can just do a back up image and re-align ssd and restore to it?

I would think so. I would definitely check the math first, maybe it doesn't need it.

You can runn AS SSD Benchmark and tell you if your 4k align. Upper left box should say 1024k - ok in green.
