I didn't do anything different but change the boot options to a different disk type. Windows reported MBR type finally, I shut down, reset for SATA and it finally installed.
Problem now is 1 out of 3 boots the SSD is not recognized and I have to clear CMOS, go back into BIOS and reset to ACHI. It's getting pretty old, pretty fast. I've doublechecked all connections.
At a loss why it keeps losing the SSD. My WD HDD and DVD burner are having no problems.

Actually I'm having to reset CMOS constantly, when leaving BIOS I usually get a blank screen and have to power down by switch.

Are you on the latest BIOS for the board, if not update as that may help with your current BIOS/CMOS issues. Nice to hear you finally got windows installed!!

Yep, finally got Windows on the SSD. I'm on 1.60 BIOS, I think that's latest.
Got 2 problems alternating right now. When I close Windows:

a)either the machine won't turn off by itself or
b)I have to clear CMOS everytime I boot up. or
c) both
............Going to strip everything back down this morning and start over.

Is there an AHCI preinstall driver I missed somehow like on the Gigabyte MOBO's? Or is this necessary for the ASRock?

Well anyway for now I have Windows installed on a slow Caviar Green. No luck keeping the machine running with the SSD as a boot drive. Don't understand that, but it just doesn't like that SSD. Might be RMA time.....

did that ssd work fine on other mb's? its either a bios issue or a faulty ssd

Yeah, I originally had the F60 on my P67 machine, worked perfectly.
Another problem has cropped up. On some boots, after flash screen, the screen goes blank. Have to kill the power and start over. Maybe this mobo is just bad.

I read a review on Anandtech that a guy had a power supply that had compatibility problems with this mobo. But otherwise the psu was good. Hmmmmm. Maybe my wife will let me borrow her psu for a little testing.
I HAVE had some curious problems that MIGHT be related to psu.

Latest Intel AHCI drivers are here, you asked on page 2 :)

You want the third link for installing in the OS, the preinstall drivers are not needed for widnows 7 (ever if you reinstall), but you can use them if you want

Thanks! I'll install. BTW I tried another PSU but no joy.
I DID get the CIR header to work to power on the pc with the remote, which is a handy feature for an HTPC. Now back to the SSD and we'll see how it goes.

still would be worth waiting on emily to see if she can send you custom bios,but try those ahci drivers ect

Yes, will do.
The driver didn't help, BTW. Another problem I'm having is the machine has not been turning off after closing Windows, the screen just goes blank. I have to push the power button and hold it.
One of the main reasons I bought this mobo is for the CIR header, but I hope I can get the SSD working and shutdown going smoothly.
Glad it's got a pretty BIOS-I've seen it a lot.

In the meantime, tomorrow I will trying yanking the cable on the WD and plugging the SSD into one of the SATA2 ports just for yucks and see if it's recognized. Not really a solution, but out of curiousity.....or would the SSD plugged in SATA2 and the WD plugged in SATA3 not be doable with the SSD as boot drive?
EDIT: neverming, I forgot how slow the WD is. Doesn't matter where it's plugged in (meaning SATA2 is fine). BAM! my head hitting the keyboard.

I tried plugging in just the SSD to SATA_3, (the first SATA 2 port) and the drive is not seen there either. Plugging the WD with OS installed into SATA_3 and the SSD into SATA_4 the SSD is recognized.

So, to summarize everything, the SSD, a Corsair F60, is not recognized when installed as the only device on any SATA ports.
The machine does not power off when exiting Windows.

I have tried 2 different PSU's (Silencer MK III 400w / Antec Green 380w)
I have updated to most recent Intel Rapid Storage driver.
BIOS version is 1.60.

Got a little more time to sort this out before I have to make a decision to return the mobo, hope ASRock can help me get this fixed.
