590 GTX is "SLI" it self, 2 chips connected with Nvidia bridge.
There 2 GPU displayed in his system. If he disable SLI on 590 - GPU1 will work as usual, GPU2 on idle.

toothy1911
GPU-Z. When you disable SLI can you run bus interface test (press ? on utulity interface) for both chips or only 1 displayed?

OK, just wanted to be sure that you weren't mixing cards.
Remove your Xfi Xtreme card and see if this makes a difference.
Have you checked any of the reviews for your card to see if there were any special installation steps that were required?

Both chips are displayed. Only one is doing any processing though as sli is disabled.

Removing the xfi card makes no difference. And there are no special install instructions ive come across yet

So both GPUs can work individually and work simultaneously(separate - w/o sli) when you use 2x GPU-z?

I don't think they will both work indivdually. If I plug a second monitor into the port for GPU2 it causes the PC to crash/BSOD.
It's happy to work off one chip, and GPU-Z can see both GPUs though.

I'd call that a GPU issue, that card is meant to run multiple monitors and in SLI mode, if you can't do either I call the GPU bunked.

good find on the SLI issue.

Re: BSOD on Boot - Z77X-UP4 & 590 GTX

The problem might be with your motherboard bios.
I've seen several threads where some gen 3.0 video card problems were due to the motherboard bios.

In post #1, you said
I then removed the card and tried it in an old system, running a 775 ASUS P5B motherboard... and it started up fine, no problems! So I dont think the 590 is at fault.
and
I have unplugged all other PCI card incase there was a conflict. And removed all but one stick of RAM. I have also tried it in a different PCIe slot. Still, didnt solve it.
and
I was running on the latest BIOS (F10b) and have also tried the last "stable" BIOS too (version F9). Since joining the forums I tried 11a, and I am currently on 9b.
Your Asus P5B 775 motherboard does not support SLI, so this is not a thorough test.
Can you test your video card in another SLI capable system?

Did you retest using the F11a motherboard bios?
In post #9, GB Tech is using the F11a motherboard bios and was using the 267.91 Win7 x64 Nvidia Forceware drivers.
Did you try using the exact same setup with any of your tests?

Do any reviews of your video card show that GPU-z reports the Bus Interface = PCI-E 2.0 x16 @ x16 2.0?

I dont have another SLI system availiable unfortunately.

I have tested it to exactly how they set their system up. Only differences could be RAM, CPU, PSU, and HDD/SSD.

I found a website very easily that shows the PCI bus at x2.0

Hi Wazza. Thanks for the offer, but after weeks of trying, and getting nowhere. The last resort was to send things off for testing. I have just decided to return the 590 instead and cut my losses. I will just pick up a 680 or something when I see one cheap enough. Or maybe a couple of 580's. (Feel free to message me if anyone has anything to offer!)

I would like to thank everyone who has helped with this issue. But it's going to be one of those unsolved mysteries I think! I would have thought there was some slight fault either with my motherboard or the 590. If it's my motherboard, I'm sure I will find out soon when I upgrade with a different card and it still doesn't work!

That's too bad, there shouldn't be an issue with compatibility. The latest 77/79 series MB's have been plagued with issues... it's really too bad.

I got the motherboard the week it was released, possible it has a few problems that were later improved. Only needs a revision to one of the chips on there to cause or resolve problems.
I should have sent it for testing really. But I don't want to have to pay when they say nothing is wrong. Plus the time they'd have it for. Also more hassle as the 590 was watercooled. Easier to know where to cut your losses sometimes
