  • Can I Run Two Videos Cards on this Hardware. One has 512MB and the other has 1GB RAM

    I have a EP45-UD3P motherboard and a,

    PowerColor AX3650 512MD2 Radeon HD 3650 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card.

I have a chance to pickup a Powercolor HD RADEON 3650 1GB DDR2/GDDR3/GDDR4 DVI HGTV.

I am running two Samsung 215TW displays and do lots of video editing and am wondering If I can run each display on its own card? It looks like the only difference is the RAM amount.

I think any card that's the same model can run in xfire mode, doesn't matter what ram size

My next question is how to install it? Right now I have both displays on a card.

Add the 2nd card and swap a display cord to it and restart?

The thing is I don't know if its possible to run two cards independently at the same time, usually you can only set one initial display or two/three displays off one card, but I'm not 100% sure on that

back in the day before xfire or sli you had to use more then 1 gpu to attach more then 1 monitor.

My question is why do you want to add a second card if you already have 2 monitors working off 1 card? Do you plan on setting up crossfire? If you setup crossfire you will be limited to the card with lower ram.

Just install second card and attach a monitor to it. Then setup extended desktop or mirror. Its the same no difference.

Maybe I have a misconception of reasonable need for running dual cards on dual monitors. Can you tell me what are some scenarios for doing it.

You would be better off buying a cheap ddr5 graphic card,ATI has eyefinity with 3monitors if needed off a single card

Only time you need more then 1 video card for more then 1 monitor is

                1. You do not have enough ports to connect the monitor.
                2. The resolution you are tring to run can not be support by 1 gpu.
                3. like wazza said newer ATI cards support Eyefinity with 3 monitors of 1 card so with 2 cards you could run up to 6 monitors.

                drawbacks to running multi gpus

                1. power/electricity
                2. heat gpu1 will run hotter
                3. room will run hotter another heat source.
