  • GA-P55 UD3R COLD boot problem

    hi,

sometimes it wont boot, HDD led is continuous red, fans not running.
all phase led on. mostly this will happen after a long *off* period, but sometimes allso now and then. but if it runs, it is very stable.
    Bios F4

    how can i fix this?

Re: GA-P55 UD3R COLD boot problem

You may want to try using Performance Enhance = Turbo, saw this help a user not long ago, so this may be something new to P55 and standard causes issues? Just a thought to test out

Aside from that, I think you may need more PCH Voltage, and maybe a little more QPI/Vtt

      ok, will try:

qpi=1.25 (looking at intel i5 750 specs: max qpi is 1.21!!, or i'm wrong? =
      pch=1.120
      perf.enh=turbo

      hopefully this will help...

Do not worry about that, see my reply here on QPI/Vtt voltages

hmm, yes there was x58 / i7 talking and there may this higher qpi/vtt voltages are ok but see here:

found at Intel Datasheet for the Lynnfield:

          http://download.intel.com/desi...or/datashts/322164.pdf

Look at the table 7-4 on page 67

so, i'm really not sure about that, what do you say?

          best

Yes, I am aware of what that says. Did you read ALL the info I posted in the link above? Several types of memory by default MUST have way more than that.

Yes, don't be scared of it at all. As long as you keep your ram voltage within .5 of QPI/Vtt you will be fine, that is anywhere within a.5 range, not exact .5 difference.

                  ^^+1

Voltage difference between QPI/VTT and VDIM is the key. As long as this rule is observed, you can actually run rather high sounding QPI/VTT voltages quite safely. IMO, anything up to 1.35 QPI/VTT is positively pedestrian, up to 1.45 is "giving it some beans" and up to ~1.5 is for when pushing for benchmarks. This becomes more/less safe depending on cooling used too.

With QPI/VTT @ 1.25V and VDIMM at 1.65V(0.4V apart), you are definitely 100% safe.

Just so you are not so scared, I have personally uses 1.7 QPI/Vtt myself, using 1.41xx now I believe. Of course that 1.7 QPI/Vtt was under Dry Ice, but on water I have used 1.6-1.65 without issues.

Check out some of my settings used in my DDR3 reviews linked in my signature, you will see even some high QPI used at lower ram speed too.

well, now setting to vtt to 1.25, mem.enh to turbo, pch=1.120 didr *not help.
                      first boot ok,
then doing a reboot: nogo. red hdd led burning, fan stands still, all phase leds on.

                      pressing reset dont help.
turning off with switch in front and restart, dont help.
i do this severeal times (switch in front) and then it will run again....!?!.
                      without any (stability) problems.

now trying little more vtt: 1.27

Yes, more QPI/Vtt, try 1.3-1.4+ depending on ram speed and timings.

                          well, ram's running not that high: 700/1400 with 8-8-8-22, 84 -t1 ...

i forgot to say, my used powersupply:

its an silverpower: sp-600A2C, 600w, until now it worked very well.
my last CPU was an i7 920 /GA-DS4 with this Powersupply
                          and it worked fine.

my system (cpu+graphic card) is water cooled.

graphic card is an NV gtx-260/896mbyte

Ahh ok, well at that speed/timings you should be ok with 1.2-1.25 I would think, maybe less.

What PCH are you using now, and Ram is it at 1.66?

That PSU should be fine. Why did you move from X58 to P55??? That's a step backwards really.
