SMART with AHCI is dependent on the chipset. Not the cpu socket.

I do not really care who botched the job - I just would want it fixed one way or the other

Embarrassing at least for the manufacturer who sells a product that fails to deliver:

1) no usb keyboard/mouse system power on
2) no SMART under AHCI
3) no monitor wakeup from system sleep

looks like a lousy job done, no?

and, btw, it still does not explain why, on a 939 socket board, temperatures display just fine under AHCI

SMART with AHCI is dependent on the chipset. Not the cpu socket. What did that old motherboard have a VIA chipset? accually It depends on the SATA controller which is in the Southbridge of your motherboards chipset. The SB710.

mate, no need to spin in circles

it's all basic functionality every mobo should provide. Whoever botched it does not matter to the consumer...consumer expects a fully working product.

Yeah who cares who's mistake it is as long as someone gets it right. That someone is most of the time the consumer. We are either satisfied with the product or not. If we are not satisfied we don't use it.

problem in your logic - consumer does not know when he gets sold a limited/castrated/faulty product. Consumer paid full bucks not for a lite product.

If that board would have been ~50 bux (something) you can feel it's a lite product but not when you pay 3 times as much. This is ugly!
