    Hello All,
two problems I face with this board (new build F3 bios) in Vista32:

    1) SMART is enabled in bios but still no HDD(WD5000AADS) temperatures reported in Vista. WinDLG tells no SMART status available?

    2) Power on by (usb) keyboard or mouse does not work

do I have to wait for a new bios?

Tried HWmonitor and it fails as well coz there is no SMART status available even it is activated in the sysbios and, no, I do not run RAID - only AHCI!

Good answer. Check your Hard drive which is where the sensor is. Mine shows a temperature in HWMonitor on my SATA in ide mode, and also showed on my SATA WD drives before I decided to RAID. That was with SMART enabled or disabled.

Mate, my HDDs are WD5000AADS and they do report temperatures IF it works. IDE mode is not useful as it is slow and not even NCQ support.

On my old 939-socket Gigabyte AMD-mobo temperatures worked just fine in AHCI but now on a AM3 mobo and all fails?

Some boards/BIOS will just simply not report anything unless IDE mode is used.

Is there something specific you need to check, or was you wanting to monitor things in general?

I am generally used to monitoring the health status of my box. Everything worked on a 939-socket board. Why not with AM3?

Can you tell me why it's just a fuss with AM3 boards?

I decided to activate SATAI AHCI mode on a third HDD, and measure speed compaired to the SATAI IDE mode, Here is my results. I also compaired it to my SATAII RAID mode

The RAID benchmark is unfair it is SATAII the other 2 are the same drive SATAI
In SATAI IDE mode I have temperature readings on the SATA IDE mode drive with SMART disabled. In SATA AHCI mode and SATAI RAID mode no temps. I have decided to switch back to SATAI IDE mode on the single HDD

I ordered another WD SATA drive. It is the same as my RAID setup I will use it and run this comparison again later. This way it will be more accurate.

Okay, here mine look a bit different - AHCI is faster..
and, btw, it still does not explain why, on a 939 socket board, temperatures display just fine under AHCI

Did you turn SMART off when running the tests? SMART is enabled in SATA IDE mode. SATA AHCI mode has disabled SMART. SMART causes a performance decrease. This could be the reason for the difference.

SMART is always enabled in the sysbios - I have no way to enable it separately under AHCI

I know no SMART is the culprit but I can do nothing about it..

I went into bios and enabled smart I got a less desirable result on the score for my SATAI IDE mode.
SATAI IDE mode with SMART enabled in BIOS.

Im going back into Bios to disable SMART. It's not very SMART for me. I don't want anything SMART that has a negative effect on the HDD performance.
