Re: GA-MA785GMT-UD2H EES and other BIOS questions

I'm assuming I should bump the DDR Voltage by 0.08-ish to hit 1.9 Volts - agreed?

Thanks again!

Re: GA-MA785GMT-UD2H EES and other BIOS questions

This may not be neccesary for 1600Mhz, but your memory manufacturer suggests 1.8v to 1.9v It has a 1.95v Extended Voltage Protection. OCZ Technology | Products | Memory | OCZ PC3-14400 NVIDIA SLI-Ready Edition

Re: GA-MA785GMT-UD2H EES and other BIOS questions

Okay - I think I'll just raise it 0.03 from it's present setting, which should put it at 1.85.

For the NB VID - I think default was 1.175 and PMT is requesting 1.2250. SSS shows 1.1750-1.2250, but you previously suggested +0.2 which would be 1.3750.

What is the max spec voltage for the NB VID?

Re: GA-MA785GMT-UD2H EES and other BIOS questions

I only know of 1 program that I had good results with and that was Memset. It's the only program I am aware of that will allow you to change memory timings in Windows. The reboot sets them back to previous settings so you can test your memory timings without the worry. If you find timings that are tighter (= lower) that benchmark with higher result, and pass the stress tests. You may want to write them down and apply them in bios. The program is Memset 4.1 beta 4. You can download it here---> (scroll down to the memory section for it.) Also you might want to add this page to favorites or bookmark it for all the other neet programs on it).---->http://forums.tweaktown.com/f69/late...y-tools-30530/

Re: GA-MA785GMT-UD2H EES and other BIOS questions

Your Welcome, and Thank you for the great information you posted here. I have learned as well. That PMT program is a great way to adjust and even reduce cpu vcore which is not offered in some bioses. The adjustment increase and decrease for cpu nb vid voltage is not offered at all on most boards and cpu's in bios. I will want to suggest PMT to those who need to make these adjustments.
the PMT final output is offset by any applied BIOS correction.
I'll try to keep this in mind Again Thanks

I don't feel like I've helped that much, b/c I didn't know what I was doing.

Originally posted by artdrivers View Post

True, but to me, the critical features of PMT are two other ones:
• Applies specified multiplier to all cores as specified (That was about a 1.5-2x framerate increase for me in single-threaded games b/c before the OS would swap between idle cores, so CPU frequency was consistently around 800 MHz.
• (Not critical for me, but - Allows independent multiplier on each core - so for example, if you unlocked a processor to 4 cores, and the main two could run 14x, but the rear could only run 10x stably, you are able to do so (otherwise you would have to run at 10x on all cores).

I'll try to keep this in mind
The key thing here is to verify the data and know what you are looking at. PMT and AMD Power Monitor only show requested info - you can tell b/c the CPU speed is always 800 or 2800 and the NB VID is always 1.2250 (or whatever was requested). CPU-Z, HW Monitor, SpeedFan, etc. show measured voltage and speed - you can tell b/c speed will be 2812.9 and variable and voltage will be 1.198 and variable (slightly).

I got a bit frustrated by not knowing and checking that, though, b/c I had the system stable in PMT, and then changed the BIOS Vcore (down), which then put PMT+BIOS Vcore WAY down and led to instability.

Again - thanks for your help and you're most welcome for any minimal help I may have provided.

• UPDATE: The end of this thread has more details on what is exactly changing, and this thread (by the author of the SP2 switching utility) says it does not work with wireless mice. I didn't check b/c I just found out about that this morning, but based on that, it is VERY likely that the update DID work on my wired mouse, but did not work on my wireless one (even on the old computer with patched SP2), and I just never noticed it and it is unrelated to the current mouse sluggishness.

Thanks - I had C1E disabled - since Hibernation doesn't seem to work - not a big deal to me.

Also - I verified the mouse polling rate change DID in fact work, just not for the wireless mouse.

Don't change the old usbport.sys in C:\Windows\system32\drivers\ wrong way
You may corrupt Windows system 32 drivers.
You will want to use Device Manager and update the USB drivers right way or ---->

Yes, and no ...

Upgrading the USB drivers through Device Manager may help with incompatibility and I should try it (more for my USB hub as much as for my USB mouse).

Changing USBport.sys (assuming you don't make a typo) is no more risky than running the old usbmsr11.exe program under WinXP SP2. Basically, it goes through the same steps. I increases the polling rate of ALL USB devices to 500 Hz (not just mice), but if you can't adjust the mouse polling rate through the drivers, there aren't many other ways of doing this ...

I was skeptical, but I decided to try that total USB re-install that you posted. No easy feat as it wanted you to remove all USB devices before starting and the mobo only supports a PS/2 keyboard OR PS/2 mouse, but not both. I usually use a PS/2 Keyboard, but I had to shut down, connect a PS/2 mouse, and navigate with no keyboard connected.

Too early to be certain, but it seems to have fixed ALL my problems!!!

• Before I started, I copied all 876 Mb from my USB flash drive to the desktop (with the extension cable) but not the hub. After I finished, I re-installed the hub and copied the data twice more to different directories, without a single I/O error while I was doing other things on the computer at the same time!!! I'm pretty sure that wouldn't have worked before. (I know it seems like a minor thing - it's a $5 USB hub after all, but I have it semi-permanently mounted, I liked the layout, I was doubtful it truly failed, and I had no guarantee another one would work any better).
• The mouse lag problem is harder to pinpoint as it was somewhat intermittent before, but I fired up Prime 95 and didn't see any lag, so I think (hope) it is fixed as well.

I am still using the modified usbport.sys files. Maybe not a great idea, but I use some cheap USB roller trackballs in MAME and the SP2 fix was recommended and seemed to help for it, so I wanted it for SP3, and it is essentially the same changes.

Okay, I found two more minor naggling problems (not b/c of the new system):

• CTFmon.exe - this is a worthless program that sometimes gives me errors on shutdown. I found this KB article
• Word 2000 did not seem to have the Office Shared Features or Alternate User Input options in Setup, so I couldn't disable them.
• Language settings had only Keyboard - US, not Keyboard US 101, but that was all that was listed, so I figured it was good enough.
• I succeeded in unregistering the two files, but when I opened Word, ctfmon.exe was back again.
• I ended up booting into safe mode and renaming the two .dll files to .dll.bak (in System32 and System32/dllcache) and deleting the startup item and that seems to have worked, but probably not the recommended solution - so far, so good, though.
• Windows had an annoying habit of adding "Create New - Briefcase" in Windows Explorer. I could delete it in Tweak UI, but it always re-generated itself. I found a solution on Neowin forums, but I ended up renaming the files (in System32 and System32/dllcache), rather than deleting them - but it turns out I think all I needed was the registry fix (which he doesn't totally show, but consisted of removing one "run" key.)

Again - much thanks for all the assistance!!!

I sometimes use ctfmon.exe but this looks like a good way to remove it.---->What is ctfmon.exe And Why Is It Running? :: the How-To Geek Don't forget to use Step 2a: Disabling in Windows XP. It's after the first section.
