    Okay, that's good to know.

    Fortunately, I didn't really pay extra for the memory over DDR3 1066 and it could be useful if I ever upgrade the processor.

    I assume all Regors are limited to 1066? (would be lousy if the 245 or 250 that was $5 more would run 1666!!!)

    When you say anything higher will be an OC - would that void the processor warranty? (not sure why I am worrying about a $60 CPU, but I am). I don't think it affects the memory since it would still be within spec.

    I'll post template data tomorrow anyway just in case you see anything out of the ordinary.

          Now if you look at your pc health statues you can clearly see that the ram voltage is set low DDR3 1.5V @ 1.6V and this works good at 1066Mhz. In order to run it at 1333 you will need to manually set the voltage higher. At 1600 you will need to set it even higher. Now we talked earlier about the cpu,s memory controller limitations. If you raise the memory multiplier you need to monitor it, and check for stability. You could try 1333 @ 1.7v-1.8v Why put more voltage than is neccesary. CPU NB VID Control +0.2 for reference this will add voltage for stability for the memory controller.

            Thanks artdrivers!

            I am more concerned with the mouse issue than the memory right now, if you have any ideas. With the animated cursor it was really bad, it would sit in place for a half-second sometimes when you were moving it, and you would click it five times before it registered. The non-animated cursor, it is just a minor annoyance, but it's still acting up a bit - kinda like if the batteries were going bad, but they are not very old. (It's not really annoying unless you use a system with a working mouse right after it - if that helps). Any ideas?

            On the memory - none of this affects warranty, since I am still running it within it's specs, correct?

            That should be right - the link I posted was from Newegg's cart, so assuming they actually sent what I ordered ...

            Now let me summarize what you posted and make sure I have it correct:

            I need to go into MBIT and set
            memory clock to x6.66

            [COLOR=Black]Change DDR3 Timing items to Manual - but don't modify them to the values above (or the official spec numbers) (and the numbers I posted earlier really don't matter, b/c they are just for reference).

            Then probably re-boot and write down the BIOS memory numbers and re-post them (Monday).

            Then I should probably run Prime95 or Memtest and make sure the system works okay with them.

            Also - IIRC, PhenomMSRTweaker has a setting for NB VID in both P0 and P1 states, so I probably need an absolute (not relative) value for that to enter there.

            If all works well, repeat at 1600 and 1.8-1.9 mem VID - do I need to bump the NB any more for that or not?

            Is the above correct?

              You should not need to bump the CPU NB VID Control more than +0.2=1.4+v unless you want to start playing with heat.

                  Okay, memory clocking was incredibly easy when one (you) knows what you are doing.

                  Initially, I set:
                  Mem Clock: 1333
                  DDR3 Voltage: +0.15=1.75+v (You said +0.25, but the mobo was running the RAM at 1.6, so this gave 1.75)
                  CPU NB Vid Control=+0.2 (1.375)
                  (However – for me, PhenomMSRTweaker has a setting for NB Voltage (under P0 or P1), so the BIOS setting would only matter if I were in DOS or SAFE mode. (And potentially, I’m not sure you couldn’t have a problem with this if for example the system needed 1.375 and you had it set at 1.175, although presumably the higher voltage would only be needed under stress, so you could up it if you weren’t running Prime95 at the time.)

                  I didn’t really understand what you meant about the memory timings, but everything was set at what you posted (the second values), and I didn’t change anything except for:
                  1T/2T Command Timing was set to 2T (there was no Auto option).
                  Trfc 2 and 4 were set to 90ns, although there are no DIMMs in those slots.

                  IOW, the remaining settings are:
                  CAS Latency – 8T
                  RAS to CAS – 8T
                  Row Precharge – 8T
                  RAS Active – 27T
                  TwTR - 5T
                  Write Recovery – 10T
                  Precharge – 5T
                  Row Cycle – 42T
                  RAS To RAS – 4T
                  Interleaving – Enabled

                  I ran Prime95 for 30 minutes with no issues and then set Memory to 1600, DDR3 VID to +0.20=1.8V and ran Prime95 for an hour with zero issues.

                  Idle temps have gone up about two degrees (F), which is negligible, but I thinking I might want to reduce CPU VID, DDR VID, and/or NB VID and re-test – but I wanted advice on how and what to adjust before I did that.

                  Errr – got impatient and figured I could always go back up to higher numbers if it didn’t work well. NB VID was reduced to +0.1 (1.275) and then to +0.05 (1.225). I might be able to go back to stock clock now that the RAM voltage is increased, but I figure a small voltage bump is okay. I think there is also room to be gained on the CPU VID – planning to try that next.

                  WOW!!! – This board/CPU continues to impress – dropped the CPU load VID from 1.425 to 1.325 using MSRTweaker – (1.312 indicated with CPU-Z). System seems stable – CPU temp dropped from 115F to 105F which means the fan never kicks on. BTW, this is really dumb of me, but I am running Prime95 (the mixed lots of RAM test), two documents in MS Word (saving often), AMD Power Monitor, Easy Tune 6, CPU-Z plus my usual TSR’s – Speedfan, APC UPS Status, Multires, AVG, 1stClock – Running for 30 minutes so far and NO apparent issues – knock on wood.

                  Update – reduced the load VID from 1.425 to 1.25 (1.248 on CPU-Z – still stable and load temp is only 102F running P95 – so the HSF never kicks up to high speed – gotta love it!!! Reduced the P0 (idle) state voltage to 0.9 (0.88 indicated) and temps running P95 in Power-saving mode are 82F with ambient at 80.

                  Hmmmn- spoke too soon – those settings worked fine running P95 for half an hour, but as soon as I tried to load a visual pinball table, the computer re-booted. Backed the CPU VID up to 1.325 load and 1.15 idle since I liked how it ran at those settings – seems fine so far!!! (Mouse lag seems less also – but that might just be my imagination).

                  Need to figure out mouse and USB issues now, though – don’t think they are related to the voltage settings, though.

                      One thing that is odd – now that I reduced the voltage (and have been stressing the system for an hour) – mouse lag with the Logitech V320 mouse and missed clicks seem to be much worse. I noticed that the lag also seems to correspond to when the system is doing something – loading a new program, changing tests in Prime95, etc. It’s almost like the mouse has lower priority than the background tasks and the system waits to finish the other tasks before checking for mouse movement. It got frustrating enough that I ended up plugging in an old USB ball mouse that I still had and using it – no issues with it, so it seems to be Logitech and not either USB or mouse interface related. I might have to pick up a different USB mouse, but I liked the V320 until now. (More info – the mouse problem occurs with the USB hub disconnected and USB drive disconnected – so it is independent of that problem (that I will get to). The problem is limited to the Logitech mouse (ball mouse is laggy b/c of ball interface, but moving ball by hand works and clicks are NEVER missed). Logitech mouse problems come and go – but it IS definitely related to CPU load, b/c if I enable Prime95, the mouse will always lag and miss clicks, and if I disable it, it happens less often – perhaps it is defective. Also – I don’t think it is related to undervolting, b/c when I run P95 on Performance with stock voltage, it still lags). (Mouse has a 3-year warranty and is about 10-months old – I may be going that route, but I feel silly telling them the mouse lags if I’m running Prime95 – and I’m NOT convinced the new mouse won’t have the same issues)

                      I have a couple more thoughts on the mouse thing – I found an old file on my computer from Techconnect Magazine called USB Mouserate Switcher 1.1 (usmr11.exe) that changes the USB polling rate from 125Hz to 500Hz or 1000Hz. However – when I tried to run the program, it said that it could not find a valid sequence and I should use the standard usbport.sys file. TweakguidesTweakingCompanion mentions a similar (and looks like the identical) program on MajorGeeks (but I haven’t tried it yet – and I think Nlite had an option for it, but I didn’t select it, and don’t think I can now. (Then again, I somehow doubt it’s a polling rate issue, b/c the wired mouse has no issues (???).

                      Also, my USB flash drive is becoming flaky tonight, but I don’t know if it is from plugging in the wired USB mouse, or from reducing the NB VID or reducing the CPU VID. Anyway – I had the Word version of this post saved on the flash drive. I tried to open TGTC (also on the USB drive) in Foxit and it couldn’t read from the drive and Word couldn’t save to the drive, but I had saved the file recently, so I unplugged the drive and plugged it back in. All the files were there, so I typed some more and tried to save the file and Word said I didn’t have access to Drive F and to contact an administrator, so I saved the file to the HD and then unplugged the USB drive and plugged it in again and Explorer said (Wrong Volume inserted in drive, insert Volume “something” in the floppy drive and try again. I hit cancel and all my files were still there.

                      At this point I copied all the files from the USB drive to the HD (it worked – fortunately), formatted the USB drive, tried to copy everything back – got an I/O error. Rebooted – got an I/O error. Changed CPU VID back to 1.425, mouse lag is much less again, but got an I/O error. So either the USB interface (and hub) is having problems, or the USB drive is dying … Anyway, I’m a bit nervous about it now …

                      Also, wanted to mention – the HUB/USB drive had problems with this computer initially also. When I first set it up, plugging the USB drive (Sandisk 1GB with U3 removed) into the hub would cause the PC to lock up. Plugging the drive into the rear ports on the GB mobo directly worked fine. I had run into problems with a VIA USB controller on the old computer (MAME related, but I’m not sure what now) and had a NEC based USB PCI card so I plugged that in and plugged the hub into it and it worked. I don’t remember why now, but for some reason when I re-installed Windows for the third time on the HD, the hub and drive worked plugged into the back panel, so I used it that way and pulled the PCI card. Just trying to mention that there have been previous issues with the USB ports on the new mobo.

                      Interesting – I unplugged the hub and plugged the USB drive into the extension cable the hub was plugged into and all the files transferred back without issues. (Mouse still lags badly, though). So either the hub died, or for some reason it is incompatible with the motherboard USB ports (well at least not fully compatible). (Rates jumped all over on the transfer though – 150 minutes remaining, 12 minutes remaining, 75 minutes remaining. I know the hub is USB 2.0, but I’m now wondering if the extension cable might be USB 1.1 (any way to know?).

                      For now, I am using the drive on the rear USB ports (no hub or extension) and it seems to be working well – I will try the USB Rate changer, and then just save the data to the HD and try multiple transfers with the drive plugged directly into the computer, on the extension, or on the hub – but I suspect the extension or the hub is to blame.

                      I expected the Hub thing to be intermittent, but it ended up surprisingly easy to T-shoot. I transferred about a dozen MP3 albums to the USB drive on the rear ports in 3:44. Plugged in the Hub and extension cable and got a device I/O error at 1:15. Plugged the drive to the extension cable and transferred the files in 3:35. Plugged in a cheapie hub I had and Windows said the drive would work faster on a USB 2.0 connection.

                      So I guess I’m in the market for a cheap USB 2.0 hub (and maybe a USB mouse!!!)

                      It also occurs to me that these might be related higher up in the system – i.e. rather than both my USB hub and Logitech mouse dying when I installed the new system – perhaps there is some issue with the USB section of the new motherboard …

                      More weirdness – As I said before, cursor lack seemed to be much worse with the Logitech mouse with an animated cursor that I used to use. I edited the arrow.ani animated cursor file that I was using and saved each frame as a .cur file, but when I use those, I don’t see the little + arrow when a file or shortcut is going to be copied – although I do see it with the original animated cursor or the default cursor.

                      Grrrr – spoke too soon – was working on this on the USB drive – plugged into the extension cable and not the hub and got “The disk is full” – looked at the drive in File Explorer and it showed no files and no capacity. Tried to stop the drive and got “The Generic volume cannot be stopped right now”. Unplugged the drive anyway and plugged it back in and all the files were there.

                      This is looking more and more like a USB interface issue somewhere – but I really need help in tracking it down!!!

                              The issues I am mainly concerned with at this point:

                              * USB flash drive I/O issues - The board has six rear panel and six internal USB ports. I had a PCI USB port card, but not sure it worked any better (well, it did work better - but after the re-install, the Mobo ports SEEMED to be working), but I need 5 USB ports, and hate to use up all the PCI slots for features the board should support itself.

                              * V320 Mouse - I saw this post on the Logitech forums and they didn't seem to be much help - Confusing thing to me is the mouse "sortof" works - but a wired USB mouse seems to work fine.

                              * Mouse polling rate - this helped a good bit with XP SP2, but shouldn't be the main issue with the problem.

                              *Cursor not showing + arrow - that's just weird, but I'll just not use those cursors.

                                DDR3 Voltage: +0.15=1.75+v (You said +0.25, but the mobo was running the RAM at 1.6, so this gave 1.75)
                                OK good on my board
                                It was @ 1.8v in auto with a small bump actually @ 1.9+v. When I changed it to +0.1 it was @ 1.9+v still. I raised it to +0.2v it was @ 2.0+v. Please access your bios and look in your PC Health Status to confirm your DDR3 memory voltage results.                                 It works well for me. The memory voltage is specified as VIN1
