    The Future P55?

    I am planning on an end of year build. P55 is a maybe with Gigabyte boards, but the rumor mill review sites pointed out that there is a problem with Sata-III Marvel chips. Can I/we get some valid information on the following board I would like. Non Gaming,
    Gigabyte Quality

    Sata-III
    USB 3.0
    IDE support as I would like to hook up my old drives for easy app movement.
    Braidwood support.

    USB 3.0 is still a little off, the first generation of P55 boards will definitely not have this.

    SATA III is supprt is still vague. ASUS has removed the Marvel controllers form their boards but it seems that Gigabyte is keeping them. Whether they will actually work fine is not yet sure.
    IDE is still on the majority of the boards.
    Most boards seem to have an area for a Braidwood slot but on the majority of the boards shown in pictorial previews there's no actual slot in that area, it's left empty. I have read rumours that P55 doesn't support it after all but I don't know whether that's true.

      I've heard the same rumors about the lack of Braidwood on P55's. P55 chipset doesn't support Braidwood - TechFuels Forum

      SATA 3 sure would be a nice feature to have, however, I've only seen a couple of Solid State Disks that are able to saturate the SATA 2 controller. Unless you're lucky enough to own one of these super fast drives (the one I saw had built in RAID internally) you won't currently notice a difference.

      The good news is that there should, as with SATA 1 and 2 be expansion cards released when the tech is released, usually with internal and external connectors (external for E-SATA ofc).

      The range of Gigabyte boards, along with the X58 refresh sure do look good! I believe there's some more detail on the main Tweak Town site if you're curious as to features. There's photo's of each board and the marketing/specs sheet next to them.

        I read that Marvel has corrected the issue somewhere with the IDE and SATA3, but I can't find the info now.

        X58A would be a better choice for a build if you have the $$

            Ya, the refresh's will be EX58A. I do believe several companies are releasing a refresh, some already have I think too.

              Cool.

              From my current experiences I'll stick with Gigabyte when I move to i5/i7. The choice of boards is staggering, even if it will maybe confuse the non technical people out there.

              It would be nice if they made a more muted colour scheme version of the enthusiast boards. Maybe a black PCB with dark gunmetal heatsinks. Current Gigabyte colours are distinctive but a bit "Lego like" if you know what I mean.

                GREAT Decision, Gigabyte is awesome!!

                Black PCB Sucks I think and is unbecoming of Gigabyte!

                I am sure they will remain Blue, part of the intended looks. I am glad to see the moved to a more pastel or matching colors with the blues though instead of using red and yellow with blue like in the past.
