  • HELP: EP45-UD3P Dual Channel Problem!!!

hi, long time watcher, first time poster.

my ga-ep45-ud3p (bios f4->f7->f9 none work, cmos cleared) wont boot my g. skill pc6400 2x2gb (f2-6400cl5d-4gbpq) (passed memtest x24hrs in single channel) ram set in slot 1&3. The computer jsut starts running for ~5 sec and then restarts. It never even posts. if i place the ram is slots 2&4 the computer turns on but never restarts or posts.

if i put the ram in slot 1&2 (single channel) i can boot straight into windows. Also either chip will boot in slot one by itself.

i have tried to increase the ram voltage to 1.8->1.9->2.0->2.1v. I have increased the MCH core 1.1->1.2->1.3. I have also dropped the timings to 6-6-6-18, at 667

I recently tried someone elses PNY RAM with the same results

it must be the board, right? is there something in the bios im missing or was this board DOA?

Re: HELP: EP45-UD3P Dual Channel Problem!!!

Try these and see how you get along, you may need to overclock or at least use a lower CPU multi and higher FSB so you can use the 333 strap easier

So if you do not want to overclock your CPU freq, you may still want to use a higher FSB to make things easier. Try 8.5x333 and then use the 2.40B multi for your ram. CPU Voltage (Vcore and Vtt) may need adjusted to make this jump in FSB

Re: HELP: EP45-UD3P Dual Channel Problem!!!

i tried your settings above and i have tried overclocking (Vcore at 1.325v) with:

            7X400 2.0B
            8x333 2.4B

Again single channel mode works fine (slot 1&2)
            slots 1&3 reboot loop

Re: HELP: EP45-UD3P Dual Channel Problem!!!

Ahh well it very well could be incompatibility issues, but I have not seen any with G.Skill.

I have however seen plenty of UD3x boards having dual channel issues, can you still RMA to the store you bought to get a replacement?

Re: HELP: EP45-UD3P Dual Channel Problem!!!

i actually bought it off someone on anandtech forums that said it was an open box time. He said he had his tech test it with "3 different brands" of 2gbx2 with no problems. I dont see how that is possible since I have tried two brands (g. skill and PNY) with my reboot loop issue!

Ahh, that's not cool. He likely knew it was one of the boards with Dual channel issues and did not want to take the time to RMA it.

You may need to RMA it, let me know if you need the page to do so
