Re: Trying To Overclock Pentium 4 HT 3.73 Extreme Edition!

    Well,
That is kind of a bummer. That is a lot of what I do is one, Muti-Track Recording Using Cubase and Waves Plug-ins/Editing Tools. I also have 6 Virtual Operating Systems that I use on a regular basis. One being Windows Server 2008.
So, do you think I can still get by with the Q9650 for now, with no problems and be satisfied with the performance?
I will have to plan on looking into building another computer in the near future. One that includes an i7 CPU!
Oh, also I use SolidWorks all the time to design things. Some of the assemblies are pretty complicated and when put into motion, they use a lot of CPU power! Also, I use Revit, Arch. Desktop and 3D VIS and when I render things with a bunch of detail it can take forever! Or when I revolve models like buildings with lots of detail and features it can drag/jump pretty good! I know this has a lot to do with the graphics card, but compared with the Pentium 4 HT EE, it has to make a big difference using the Q9650 I would think? Even without the Hyperthreading?

    Please Reply,

    MattR.

Four physical Core 2 cores compared to one Netburst core emulating two will be a huge performance leap.

Hyperthreading would increase performance further, no doubt, but it wouldn't be exactly night and day.
