    Uhh hi guys I'm having some trouble OC'ing my E8400... No matter what settings I change the computer won't POST the first time then it'll reboot and the settings will be normal not OC'd ones. I wanted to hit 3.6 but I only went to 3.16 at first and it still didn't work. Are there settings I'm missing or something (I'm sure there are =P). This is on an EP43-DS3L btw with 2x2GB OCZ Reaper HPC DDR2800 in dual channel (if that matters).
    Here are my current M.I.T. settings:

    Robust Graphics Booster->Auto
    CPU Clock Ratio->9X

    *****Clock Chip Control*****

    >>>Standard Clock Control
    CPU Host Clock Control->Enabled
    CPU Host Frequency (Mhz)->333

    Re: EP43-DS3L Overclocking Help w/ E8400

    The most basic thing that you need to know is that you increase the FSB to increase the CPU speed. RAM speed is linked to the FSB though by a factor that is adjustable so you will need adjust that factor as well. Additionally, you will need to increase voltages.

    Copied form the guide I'm working on ;)

    You probably overclocked your RAM which it may not be able to handle.

    So basically put system memory multiplier to 2.0D, increase the VCore by 0.05V over stock and try increasing the FSB

      Re: EP43-DS3L Overclocking Help w/ E8400

      So how much should I increase the FSB by? And I kinda regret getting a P43 now as there aren't that many overclocking options. I'm pretty sure I didn't OC the RAM, what I had above is 333x2.4=800 but when I set the FSB to 350 (350x9=3.15) the RAM was at 700mhz or so the BIOS said...

        Re: EP43-DS3L Overclocking Help w/ E8400

        Try setting FSB to 400 bur reduce CPU clock ratio to 8 though to get to 3.2GHz for starters. Also set the CPU Vcore to 1.275V diable loadline calibration and set CPU PLL and CPU termination to the stock value. Make sure the syytemmemory multiplier is at 2.0D.

        Then run Prime 95 and monitor the temperature with Core Temp or Real temp.

        Also, could you make some photogrpahs of the M.I.T. menu in your BIOS? I would like to check whether the P43 actually does have less OC options than the P45 models, because I think they should be the same.

          Re: EP43-DS3L Overclocking Help w/ E8400

          Ok if I set the memory multiplier to 2.0D what should the (G)MCH Frequency Latch be? Should it match the CPU at 400mhz?

          As for the pics I'll try later but I don't have a camera I can use so it might just be webcam quality...

            Re: EP43-DS3L Overclocking Help w/ E8400

            You can leave it at auto. As far as I can tell the only thing this does is only make the system memory multipliers for A(266), B(333), C(200) and D(400) available ins said option.

            Pics would be great, and quality doesn't matter as long the settings are identifiable.

              Re: EP43-DS3L Overclocking Help w/ E8400

              Ok well I'm having problems. Set the clock ratio to 8x, vcore to 1.275, memory multiplier to 2.0D, FSB to 400. Exit BIOS, get the double boot thing other people have where it won't POST the first time then reboots and restores some settings. Go in the BIOS, get the error
              "The system has experienced boot failures because of overclocking or changes of voltages. Last settings in this page may not coincide with current H/W states."

              Now in windows CPU-Z shows the 8x clock ratio stuck but not the FSB so now I'm at 2.66 (333x8).

              Also had a question about RAM timings, CPU-Z gives me a table under SPD:

              What timings should I run at? I'm a bit confused about JEDEC and EPP...

                Re: EP43-DS3L Overclocking Help w/ E8400

                The BIOS reverts the FSB to the stock value if it fails to boot with the OC setting, but it leaves the multiplicator user defined, so that's perfectly normal behaviour.

                JEDEC are the standardized timings for crappy budget modules. EPP means Enhanced Performance Profile (intel calls it Xtreme Memory Profile) and includes the timings that the RAM is specified for by the manufaturer, so those are the timings you want to run it at.

                    Also about RAM voltage, in the BIOS 2.1 flashes pink and 2.2 upwards is just red (I'm assuming this is warning against setting voltage that high). What should I do then? According to the EPP column of CPU-Z, I should set timings to 4-4-4-15 at 2.2V and put the command thingy to 2?

                        Re: EP43-DS3L Overclocking Help w/ E8400

                        Thanks for the BIOS pics, it appears that the board is indeed missing a fe voltage settings, but they're the ones you never change so it doesn't matter.

                        Comannd thingie on auto is fine btw.

                        The "flashing" is not problem, I mean the RAM is made for that much voltage. I just look at as a sign that I've got that setting right ;-)
                        You can leave the RAM timings on auto for the moment, they don't bring no noticeable performance for Core 2 anyway to be honest. You can emasure but, it's too small to notice.

                        What PSU do you have btw? I just checked the settings and they seem fine, except that you should disable X.M.P. so I think the problem may lie somewhere else. A cheap PSU may be fine for stock settings but may keep you from overclocking.

                          PSU is OCZ Stealth Stream 500W. I think its decent quality.

                            Yep, OCZ is decent.

                            Try bumping up CPU termiantion by 0.1V.

                              Hmm tried that no luck. Mostly it'll get stuck in a reboot loop with the fan speed going fast then slow then reboot for a while before it finally POSTs and the settings are normal. I think it may have something to do with RAM settings as when I changed them to 4-4-4-15 and 2.2V it wouldn't POST but at 5-5-5-18 and 1.8V it works ok. But when I did that I didn't get the overclocking/voltage warning, that only happened when I changed the FSB/voltages...
