  • EP45-DS3L Manual memory timing problems

    Hello,

    I've recently build my new budget gaming computer. EP45-DS3L, e8400, HD4870, 2x2GB G.Skill PC8000, etc.

I have absolutely no stability issues while at auto memory timings, but once I change to manual and set my own, it enters the reboot loop and resets to auto again. The memory is rated at 5-5-5-15 @ 2.0-2.1v. I am manually entering 5-5-5-15 @ 2.1v when it crashes. Mind you this is only at 800Mhz memory speed. Even down to 667Mhz it isn't stable when I enter my own timings.

With the timings on all auto, I was stable @ 800Mhz memory speed (3.6Ghz CPU), and on auto, it had 5-5-5-15, which is what I entered myself. I am so confused.

Why, when on auto, it goes to 5-5-5-15 and is stable, but when I do manual 5-5-5-15, it's unstable? I have raised MCH core to 1.3v and tRFC to 62, as advised on threads i searched for, but to no avail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. (hopefully LSD will see this, he seems to be very knowledgable)

Re: EP45-DS3L Manual memory timing problems

Well, just got it up to 4Ghz stable, and the auto timings were 5-6-6-17 on CPU-Z. So all I did is enter those exact timings manually, and it wouldn't boot. This doesn't make sense. I kept all other timings set to auto, as they were before when it was stable.

Best to look at the memory guide at the top of the first page of this GB forum.

However, often instant stability (whilst tightening timings) can be afforded by:

      1) Performance Enhance = STANDARD
      2) tRFC (4GB or more RAM) = 54
      3) The possible need to increment DDR2 Voltage by 0.1volts (or further)*
      4) Test

*Try to make your target ceiling no higher than 2.0volts (if possible)
      GA-P35C-DS3R Rev2.0 F11 bios, E8200 (@3.0Ghz), OCZ DDR3 PC3-10666 Reaper 4GB (@1200Mhz), Xonar D1, 8800GTS 512, Corsair HX520 (Single 12volt line, Max 40A), WDC 3200aaks/5000aaks in AHCI mode, Vista 64 Premium.

Re: EP45-DS3L Manual memory timing problems

as far as i know, it's not that easy to change timings especially for 2*2GB, are those CL4?
you need to change Advanced timing as well, and in channel A and B make sure every setting(I.E trd phase0 adjustment and so on are AUTO) is on auto, except static tread value, try to put in each channel static tread 8-10, what ever works for ya, timings 5-5-5-15, and advanced timings

        tRRD-3-6
twTR-8-12(u can get them lower if had success in booting)
Twr 10-14(u can get them lower if had success in booting)
        trFC 52-62
        tRTP 3-6
        COMMAND RATE 2!
and ofcoure the things that VorLonUK wrote.
this is what im using(start from highest to lowest till u r stable :D)
hope i've been any help(im a noob as well :P), every thing i know is from a very smart man! :PP

        EDIT:
high mch voltage is essential for 2*2 try anywhere between 1.24-to 1.3 start from 1.3.

Re: EP45-DS3L Manual memory timing problems

Do you have the latest BIOS? If so try manual again with twtr of 12, and twr of 14, static tread 12, driving strength profile of 1066

If you dont get it let me know and I will post some full ranges for you to use, I have to run to town for a few now so I cannot post them right now. Good luck, look around for g.skill posts and you will likely find some perfect ranges. If not, I will be back soon, if not I will see you tonight and post you some full settings

Yup, I have the latest (F9) bios. Tried twtr of 12 and twr of 14, static tread 12 and driving strength 1066. Wouldn't post.

The good news is I have my c0 e8400 to 4.05Ghz @ 50*C load, now if I can only get my timings down to 5-5-5-15 as they should be, I'll be good to go.

I'll post my whole bios settings in a second using your template.

Here are the settings I'm trying to use. This causes a reboot cycle. Simply changing RAM Timings to Auto makes a prefectly stable system.

              Robust Graphics Booster ...............: [Auto]
              CPU Clock Ratio ..........................: 9

Re: EP45-DS3L Manual memory timing problems

i had exactly the same problem, i just couldnt lock the timings!!!
but it was fixed after i went to every option and did F7(load optimized defaults) nto just to the main screen of M.I.T when i enter any advanced settings or channel settings i pressed F7, then i reboot, then i manually change timings and everything was fine :S
before that i could lock the timings no matter what.

Well, that seemed to fix the problem, lol. Here I was trying to do all this complicated stuff when all I needed to do was reset everything and start over. Thanks Dweirdo and LSD.

:p glad it did, and this was the point i thought my posts are useless xDD.
now we know why most of the ppl, cant set timings manually :P

Nice! I was about to suggest you load optimized and start at the top again. Often helps, and Should ALWAYS be done and applied after a flash as well.

If you do still need some suggested ranges for best performance here ya go >>>

                      Code:
