System would only post after unplugging from mains & resetting bios. Once I'd done that I could enter
    bios, configure & start windows.
Fortunately, I had saved a copy of the 1.70 (WIN) bios which allowed me to revert to previous bios.
All appears OK after a complete CMOS reset.

I can't go back. Ivy Bridge i7-3770k now :), but still need new bios. 2.04 doesn't fix anything. XMP makes the system crash on BIOS post.

      Final UEFI 2.10 for your board: ASRock > Products > Motherboard > Z68 Extreme7 Gen3 > Download

As well as for many others: http://www.asrock.com/news/events/2012ivy/

        Hey radier
I caught your tip in another thread about leaving the USB stick in after flashing the UEFI so that the Intel ME FIRMWARE can also be updated...But I would say that unless you actually have an Ivy Bridge CPU installed that updating the UEFI is pointless...
It looks like there will be no more plain old Sandy Bridge UEFI updates for this board without taking the risk and updating to the newer Ivy Bridge/Sandy Bridge UEFI and so far the reaction from the troops EXCEPT for You has been a big "Oh Sh.."

Most users are unexperienced so I would not recommend them to rush for every new UEFI that shows up.
I was patiently waiting for the situation to unfold and I have flashed 3rd revison of new UEFI innstead of the very first. Now I am using 4th which is final.

New UEFI brings some improvements and new features. What I have noticed so far:
          faster boot
          better CPU FAN Control
better OC (still testing to be sure, some guy at overclock.net noticed quite impressive improvement)

            No help from 2.10.

Basically the same results as previous 2x BIOS versions.

Radier, I'm sure you're very knowledgeable, however you don't own this motherboard. Perhaps keep it focused?

                Re: Extreme7 Gen3 BIOS 2.03 Killed System!

From reading the various threads that most folks are having undesireable problems except "radier" after updating to the latest UEFI + Intel ME Firmware for Ivy Bridge/Sandy Bridge for GEN 3 boards, it would seem that maybe this Intel ME firmware update probably contains CPU microcode that is the root, of where the problems might be. Esp since going backwards is not an option. I suspect that this firmware programs some eprom on the chipset itself, besides the CMOS, - hence the no going back disclaimer, and probably where ASRock engineers should focus their attention on, to ascertain the compatibility with the unique system UEFI and the Intel ME firmware, which is more generic for the 2 CPU types. I am not planning on upgrading my CPU since I built my rig less than 8 month ago, and there is not really anything that Ivy Bridge has over Sandy Bridge given that the chipset on the board is Z68 and not an Ivy Bridge chipset designed board. But it would seem a poor business move on that part of ASRock to discontinue separate UEFI updates for GEN 3 boards that use the Sandy Bridge CPU in favor of some combined UEFI coded to work with both Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge CPU's that the threads in this forum are SCREAMING "has created problems" that they have not addressed properly as a manufacturer should. Unless the situation changes and they fix the UEFI and iron out the bugs those of us who are sticking with Sandy Bridge are left out in the cold less than a year after the board was released with no future UEFI updates to at least include hardware up dates like GPU's etc etc that are not currently coded in the last official UEFI update prior to Ivy Bridge....

                    Re: Extreme7 Gen3 BIOS 2.03 Killed System!

i have managed to update the bios on my extreme 7and all seems to be ok.
all 16 gig of memmory detected and my 2600k overclocked back to 4.8 ok. ive not had chance to play around with the new features much i dont understand them yet.
the only change i have noticed so far is in boot time i am into windows before my hand has left the start button.
i am glad i came on here and read up first as i would have probably taken the usb stick out before the update had finnished.
sorry to hearof allthe problems some people have had and i hope they get sorted out quickly.

So it seems that new UEFI is just fine.

                      People have to read instructions.

ive been busy at work but i had chance to fire bad company two up for a while and i am going to go out on a limb and say it seems to run better. i cannot put my finger on it but it just seems smoother not more fps just smoother. i am sure its not a placebo the nearest i can say is that the system has had a good oiling.
