Any plans to oc the cpu? 17K would be reachable I'd say.

Ya as soon as I get up the time to swap out the OEM CPU cooler. right now I am more less just letting it all settle in before I start to push it :)

        Especially at 3.8GHz.

What are you cooling it with?

Now that is just plain weird. You obviously know your way around hardware so the lapping methodology must be good.

Does it alter at all if you

A/. lay the case on its side

                B/. apply directional pressure

I'm just curious to know it is the weight of the cooler tilting it slightly and thus giving not such good contact on one core, iirc the Ultra120E has an X shaped clamp yes? which theoretically should negate this happening.

I remember reading a review somewhere that was about a washer for the mounting plate that had a major effect on temps but i can't recall where I saw it, if I do I'll post it up, not saying that this will alter the temps but every little bit of info helps.

                Cheers.

no not at all. I have a twisty tie holding it rigid for when i move the case around

I think you will find that was for when your hardcore and like to rip off protective/heattransfer cpu cover and expose chips
The washer was there to take up discrepancy from cover being removed

                  not really worried about temps
But I might give the ultra 120 another 20mins lapping????

If the base of the Ultra120 is flat I don't think further lapping is going to gain you anything except used sandpaper. The irregularity appears to be in the chip.

                      Nice score ^_^
I get 12271 with my system, was only about 3500 with my 7600GT before I upgraded. Thinking of SLI'ing it soon :P

Your compare link doesn't work mate, you did publish the project yes?
                            What was the score?

What temps are you getting at 3.7GHz with the Zalman? (also what are your ambient air temps? It'd be quite cool there at this time of year wouldn't it?)

Cabling could do with some attention, lol.
