"Clawhammer" is suppose to debut around October this year with "Sledgehammer" comin' early next year if AMD can keep to it's roadmap. ;)

Your guess is as good as mine but AMD did state earlier this year that they should come in around the price of the topend Athlon release price range if ya can figure that one out. ;)

Sledgehammer has more pins, dual memory controllers and can run in configurations greater than dual CPU's. ;)

Oh, so are they going to be outrageously expensive and generally not feasable for the average user? Is the SledgeHammer AMD's attempt to compete with Intel's Xeons?

"Clawhammer" is so far to be called "Athlon Ultra" (though that could change) and is aimed at desktop and lower end workstations in confurations up to dual systems. It should also debut at around the normal Athlon "New Release" price that AMD has been using.
"Sledgehammer" is to be called "Opteron" and is aimed at Higher end workstations and servers operating up to 8way setups. The price of these will be any guess atm.
These will have some overlap of Intel's Xeon and Itanium processors. :smokin:

What's the pin count for the Sledgehammer ??
And does anyone know what the Hammers will be clocked at ??

It was stated by AMD earilier this year that they hoped to debut "Clawhammer" at a PR of 3200+.
The pin count for "Clawhammer" is 754 and "Sledgehammer" is whoppin' 940. :smokin:

they are still using that stupid PR rating system? That is so stupid becuase at the rate that Intel is going at the pr rating system for the xp line up is already rendered useless. 2.53GHz compared to 2200+? Already AMD is falling behind with there "new" processor. AMD isn't gonna come along are they?

There are "pro's and con's" to both "PR" and raw speed ratings. Consider this, an Athlon processes 9 units of data per cycle where as a P4 only processes 6 units per cycle, so if you can work out a better system then pls do. Oh and the "Hammer" family is rumoured to process more units of data per cycle. :smokin:
