  • Bill Gates is at it again

An article at www.Cnn.com yesterday, had Bill gates suggesting to users that we start buying stamps for emails. Although seemingly unpracticle a penny or two per email would not harm the usual consumer's wallet, but to scam/spam corporations who send 1 million emials a day; would be an effective deturrent.

    My thoughts on this.
    :wow:

It's the best solution I've heard yet, but it's not practical and it won't actually happen.

                    :p

Back to the original topic, charging for email is hardly an original idea. It's been a subject up for discussion for many years, probably since email first started showing signs of becoming popular. Although, like beefy said, it's hardly a practical idea. However, i'm sure someone will make a stubborn attempt one of these days.

Well, I hope that it doesn't happen. But considering the number of e-mails sent every day (not including spam) its very tempting for anyone who could pull it off.
Heck, even goverments would love to see it done- they would like the tax they could pull out of this, let alone the extra control.

next month our laws (australia) change so that it becomes an offense to send unsolicated email - unfortunately this means squat since US law is that its ok if its got an unsubscribe option.

we all know how efective that is

what should happen is that you make it illegal to advertise and then target the people paying the spammers - once there's no money in it - spam will dry up
