• XFX 8800GT with COD, or 9600GT?

I had been looking at getting an 8800GT or a 9600GT, and in the end I decided to wait to see how the prices settle.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

2 months later, now the prices on the 9600GT have dropped, and the cheapest I could find is $140 (but one of the big 3 (BFG,EVGA or XFX) is more at around $150:

Now, I found this XFX 8800 GT XXX Video, 256MB DDR3Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

XFX Call of Duty 4 at TigerDirect.com

Does this make getting the XFX 8800GT XXX a no brainer, or am I missing something. I mean how can I go wrong for $120 + a game I want to try?

Is there some $150 card coming out in the next month that will blow the 88800GT performance away?

The reason why ur 8800Gt looks so good and cheap is that it only has 256MB memory! although the extra horsepower from the 8800GT's universal shaders is present, the lack of memory does not help performance. If u compare the impact of 256MB memory less compared to a 512mb part there is a huge difference.

I just bought a 9600GT today with 512MB VRAM and im quite happy with it. The 9600Gt should outperform that 8800GT if high resolution textures are used and high graphics settings. Unless u can find an 8800GT with 512MB RAM then get that instead, otherwise skip the 8800GT 256MB and get the 9600GT.

Id have to agree, 256MB is starting to not be enough these days

Im hoping to buy a vga card nd i have selected several cards..but it is difficut to select one...
Here are the cards i have chosen

asus en9800gt 512mb 128sp's - 725 core clock - 2ghz memory clock
asus en8800gt 512mb 112 sp's - 600 core clock - 1.8ghz memory clock
asus en9600gt Top 512mb 64 sp's - 720 core clock - 2ghz memory clock

the 9600gt top has low sp's but high clock speeds...
is it better than the 9800gt or the 8800gt?

1st of all the 9600GT is much slower than the 8800GT which equals the 9800GT. I'd grab the Asus 9800GT with the full 128 SP enabled. This is a no-brainer.
