    Re: X800XT or 6800GT

I built the system I have now for light gaming and to last for a long time so I dont have to go and buy another one for school and stuff. The second one is coming with me to friends houses and tournements for sure.

        Re: X800XT or 6800GT

This is an old thread...but I needed to take use of it. My X700Pro is clearly a piece of crap for the gaming I do now :-/ and instead of making a new thread I was server-friendly and did a search. Anyways, here is the comment/question:

I am deciding on what to do for an AGP upgrade. I can get an XFX 6800GT or an ATI X800Pro. I know nvidia has ps 3.0, but the speeds on the X800 are a bit faster. If you haven't read any other threads I've made I play BF2, Guild Wars, WC III and some other FSP games. That's pretty much all the computer is used for. I just want everyone's opinions on ATI and Nvidia.

          Re: X800XT or 6800GT

For pure speed, ATI kills Nvidia on AGP. The X850 XT is awesomely fast. But, the 6800GT is most definitely fast enough, and has Shader 3 which makes it a little more future proof. I love my X850, but if I had it to do all over again, I might just get the 6800 GT myself. ATI seems to have better drivers and driver support, but that may also be offset by Shader 3. I still would suggest the X800XT/X850XT over the X800PRO. Unless you get an older X800PRO VIVO that can be unlocked, it is quite a bit slower than its' big brothers. One thing I cannot argue about is the price of the X800PRO. If that is a deciding factor, it would win over the XTs and GTs. So I guess my final vote is X800PRO to save money, 6800GT if you plan on keeping it for a couple of years, and X800XT/X850XT if you are looking for the fastest AGP card currently available.

            Re: X800XT or 6800GT

$291.00 USD for this 6800GT AGP. I'll probably wait for newegg to drop the price some more because it is going to go down. As soon as I buy one the price will drop $5-10 the following week too. The X850s don't come in AGP and anything higher than the X800Pro is too expensive to even bother with, plus from my personal experience and reivews, ATI cards get really hot and my case is nothing special for cooling. Odds for me will probably go towards the 6800GT. I'm just going to be my cheap self and wait for prices to go down more though.

Hmm. Newegg doesn't have any in AGP. I guess I could look elsewhere, but ultimately I liked the 6800GT the best for it's features. Plus ATI has slow, and not very helpful support. From what I've been through with them.

                  Re: X800XT or 6800GT

I have the X850 XT PE AGP so I am pretty sure they exist.
Anyhow, I would also pick the 6800GT over the X800PRO. It's much faster for one, and is ready for future games with shader3. I have never needed support from ATI so I have no experience with them. I do know that ATI drivers tend to come out more often and tend to be more stable. Nvidia tends to release alot of beta drivers. THe price of the 6800GT is supposed to drop, so I would also wait a month or so before buying. Make sure you post when you make up your mind and post some scores!

Wow, I guess my plans for that went out the window fast.... I totaly forgot about this thread......

Anyways you can put 2 X800XL's together in an ATI X200 Chipset(which is not widly available if at all in some areas), but one MUST Be a X800 series Crossfire master card.
