agp 8x crashing

I have a big problem with my sistem.
Motherboard gigabyte ga7vt600 1394 & radeon 9600pro video card. I can not set in bios agp 8x because my sistem crashes in all aplications. When I set bios to agp 4x everything is working ok
and all the 3d benchmarks are returning normal scores for my sistem. I had this problem before when I had a kt400 motherboard but the problem was fixed with the new ati catalist 3.8 drivers(the problem was oficialy recognised by ATI). Now with my new motherboard with kt 600 chipset I could not fix the problem. I have the latest drivers(catalist3.10, via 4in1 4.51
directx 9b) but nothing is changing.

Disablin' AGP Fast Writes may also let ya run in 8x mode.

If worse happens, running in 4X mode shows little to no decrease on 8X
