I sent this to ASUS Tech Support:
=============================================
1) The video card's nominal settings leave my monitor too dark:
I have 2 computers set up on one Monitor/Mouse/Keyboard
combination using an electronic switch. With my new machine
the screen is too dark. With my old machine the brightness is
just fine.
2) The video card's nominal settings leave my games too dark:
Increasing the gamma, brightness, and lowering the contrast
(of the display using your card's controls), still has no affect on
the game. This is worng. I had a PNY GeForce 3 Ti500 card before
and any display changes were also made *IN* the game.
I suspect your card does not have the proper drivers for my
monitor nor the games (if that should even be a separate
issue). As an example of the games I play, I play Quake 3
Arena, and Planetside. I have downloaded [and installed]
all the latest patches for the games.
BTW, the old computer is using a 3dfx video card and the screen,
as I said above, is just fine - proper brightness and all that. So it
is not the monitor. Also, I shouldn't be having this kind of trouble
with a brand new mid-range card. I am begining to think that I
should buy a PNY mid-range GeForce card in order to fix the
problem.
Finally, another issue, which I just remembered, is that the card
does not display the proper aspect ratio for my Q3A game! This is
terribly annoying since the games own commands are ineffective
against your ... card.
I hope this issue can be resolved before I decide to "fix" the
problem by returning your card and buying one that works.
=============================================
They replied with a patchwork quilt of other emails I received from
them over the years. It is apparently a bot that decides which responses to throw into the reply.
I'm fed up with ASUS, with the card, with ASUS, and with anything that has the letters 'A' 'S' or 'U' in them.
So I came here in the hope that you guys can help me get this stupid freaking annoying card to work right. PS: when I mentioned I bought the card some of the posters here said it is a good card. Could you please show me how?
