  • 9600 Pro or 9800?

Well after seeing the new HL2 benchmarks, I have decided to go with ATI for my next graphics card...now which is better? Radeon 9600 Pro 256MB or Radeon 9800 (non-pro) 128MB?? Thanks for any help...

well i dunno about that, the 9600 can overclock like a mother f*cker and i bet you could get it running at the same speeds as the 9800 non pro, but the 9600 has only 4 pipelines as opposed to the 8 pipelines the 9800 has BUT i think it makes up for that with insane overclocking ability, the 256mb RAM and the cheaper price. i would go for the 9600 and i think that would really keep you up to date on games for the next 6-12 months at least.

Wait awhile till new cards come out and get the 9800 cause price will drop.

You guys, the 9800 non pro on stock settings will annihilate even a 9600 PRO when overclocked to the max.....its a no brainer.

On the Tweaktown front page, Daily News Round #4. Anyways so a 9800 128mb is better than a 9600 pro 256mb? I was thinking the 9600 would be better because it's 256mb, of course I dont know too much about the way Video cards work so...i'm probably wrong.

The memory doesn't matter till doom3 comes out i think, because no existing game uses all the memory yet.

 i just got an fx 5600 and i want hl2 REALLY bad, but now all i can get its like 12fps with it. i hate my life. i figure ill try and sell my 5600 non ultra on ebay and get a 9600 pro and see if i cant do some damage with that. if i sell the 5600 for like 100 bucks then i think a 9600 will only cost me like 50-80 bucks....the things i do for half life

I think that Doom 3 won't even use it all. I think 128 is enough. at the moment you can still can excellent results with 64.

The are not refering to christmas prices. ATi has a new card coming out. This should cause all their cards to drop somewhat in price
