  • Overclocking Guidance Required

    Hi Guys,

    I have currently overclocked my pc, using the following hardware;

    Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping (SLBEJ) - Bios Version F10
    Gigabyte EX58-UD5 Intel X58 Motherboard
    Patriot Viper 6GB DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz DDR3
    BFG GTX 260 MC OCX 896MB PCIE

    Corsair H50-1 (push / pull configuration)
    Coolmaster RC1000 case
    Memory card reader
    Tape drive (to convert my classic songs to mp3)

    I am managed to get my pc overclocked to 4GHz, however I am using AUTO settings on the Voltages.

    Can you someone please help and check my settings below;

    Re: Overclocking Guidance Required

    Hi,

    With Intel (R) Turbo Boost Tech. Enabled you have your 920 @ 200 x21 = 4200Mhz. Disable it to get 4000Mhz.

    UD5 BIOS' and Extreme for that matter, AUTO settings are usually way above required for D0 overclocking if you use the latest version. This happens because, there aren't magical formulas for overclocking. Every system is unique and requires unique sets. Therefore, the BIOS' AUTO sets are aimed the worst (as in "most instable" and "non-overclockable") setup developers tested.
    Please, download EasyTune 6 from Gigabyte's website and post the voltages it shows. And please, post CPU temps under stress.
    Now, if the system is stable under LinX, Linpack or Prime95 and the temps are fine, just let it be. However, you can step down the vcore and QPI voltages a bit to save power.

      Re: Overclocking Guidance Required

      Thanks Johnny.

      I have purchased 6x SCYTHE 1900 SY-KAZEJYUNI-1900 fans, which has Fan Airflow of 110.3CFM

      Also I will be using EasyTune 6 and then try lower the voltages.

      Currently I am getting 87C after about 1.5 hours of prime95 test.

      I will update once I got the voltages and temps as lowest I can.

      Thanks for your help and tip.

      Bashy.
