    Re: Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 7-EU - HDMI firmware update issue

    Just finished talking to Gigabyte. They're telling me i have to send my motherboard and allow them to do the update.
    I've tried every step that that they've suggested.

    1. Check to see if my motherboard has the firmware already updated with the BOM being I/C/F7A177 00540
    2. Just plug the hdmi motherboard to one hdmi monitor and update.
    3. Try a different version of Windows and try the update. (I dont have any other version besides win 10.)

    I'm currently running Windows 10 64bit
    My primary graphics card is an r9 390 but i have windows boot into IGFX first
    a samsung 850 evo and a Dell monitor with a hdmi 2.0 input.

    Im wondering if i need a monitor or tv with the capability to receive a 2.0 hdmi with hdcp 2.2 signal already.

    I might wait to see if they update their utility soon instead of sending my motherboard over.

      Re: Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 7-EU - HDMI firmware update issue

      There was update recently but haven't changed anything.

      What is BOM and how to use it?

      How your Config.ini looks like? Mine is:

      Code:
      [Firmware Update]
      //DeviceID=0x0d
      //IntelLegacyDeviceId=0x100

      ESMFilePath="bin\EsmFirmware2.1_signed.bin"
      DriverFilePath="bin\BobcatIsp_v1.01_cut2.1_aux_SA_signed.bin"

      FWFilePath="bin\MCDP2800_C2_1_V1.42_LSPCON_MP_signed.bin"
      Also check your log file, what is there? Mine says something about initializing AMD, even though I don't have AMD graphics anymore connected:

      Code:
      DDC2biAddr = 0x6E
      RamWriteAddr = 0x1800
      RunAtAddr = 0x1800
      FlashStartAddr = 0x400000
      Gfx Selection = 0
      Graphics adapter initialization - NVIDIA: failed! (-2)
      Graphics adapter initialization - AMD: done!
      AMD Adapter num#= 3
       Active Adapter# 0:
         Num of Disp = 13
           Disp# 0: LogicId=0xFFFFFFFF , Type(03) , Conn(3)
           Disp# 1: LogicId=0xFFFFFFFF , Type(10) , Conn(1)
           Disp# 2: LogicId=0xFFFFFFFF , Type(15) , Conn(1)
           Disp# 3: LogicId=0xFFFFFFFF , Type(15) , Conn(1)
           Disp# 4: LogicId=0xFFFFFFFF , Type(10) , Conn(1)
           Disp# 5: LogicId=0xFFFFFFFF , Type(10) , Conn(1)
           Disp# 6: LogicId=0xFFFFFFFF , Type(15) , Conn(1)
           Disp# 7: LogicId=0xFFFFFFFF , Type(15) , Conn(1)
           Disp# 8: LogicId=0xFFFFFFFF , Type(15) , Conn(1)
           Disp# 9: LogicId=0xFFFFFFFF , Type(15) , Conn(1)
           Disp# 10: LogicId=0xFFFFFFFF , Type(15) , Conn(1)
           Disp# 11: LogicId=0xFFFFFFFF , Type(15) , Conn(1)
           Disp# 12: LogicId=0xFFFFFFFF , Type(15) , Conn(1)
      Anyone got any useful help from Gigabyte? Incredible they're not able to reproduce such problem at their lab...

          Re: Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 7-EU - HDMI firmware update issue

          Yes, I've done it before and I've done it just a moment ago. New VGA drivers are available on Gigabyte site:

          1) Updated BIOS to F7g
          2) Uninstalled older VGA drivers 15.40.12.64.4326 and installed new ones 15.40.16.64.4364
          3) Rebooted
          4) Installed HDMI 2.0 FW Update Tool B16.0115.1
          5) Run BobcatAuxISPTool.exe normally got: 'Firmware updating can't be started! Please shut down system for a while and restart it!'
          6) Run BobcatAuxISPTool.exe as administrator got: 'Firmware updating can't be started! Please shut down system for a while and restart it!' but log file has been created:

          BobcatAuxISPTool.log
          Code:
          DDC2biAddr = 0x6E
          RamWriteAddr = 0x1800
          RunAtAddr = 0x1800
          FlashStartAddr = 0x400000
          Gfx Selection = 0
          Graphics adapter initialization - NVIDIA: failed! (-2)
          Graphics adapter initialization - AMD: done!
          AMD Adapter num#= 3
           Active Adapter# 0:
             Num of Disp = 13
               Disp# 0: LogicId=0xFFFFFFFF , Type(03) , Conn(3)
               Disp# 1: LogicId=0xFFFFFFFF , Type(10) , Conn(1)
               Disp# 2: LogicId=0xFFFFFFFF , Type(15) , Conn(1)
               Disp# 3: LogicId=0xFFFFFFFF , Type(15) , Conn(1)
               Disp# 4: LogicId=0xFFFFFFFF , Type(10) , Conn(1)

               Disp# 12: LogicId=0xFFFFFFFF , Type(15) , Conn(1)
          UPDATE:
          I gave it another try by installing completely fresh Windows 10 64bit on spare HDD.
          Installed all the newest drivers:
          mb_driver_chipset_intel_100series
          mb_driver_intel_irst_100series
          mb_driver_sata_asm
          mb_driver_thunderbolt_x64
          mb_driver_vga_intel_64_100series

          mb_driver_lan_intel_100series
          mb_utility_megachips

          Still getting 'Firmware updating can't be started! Please shut down system for a while and restart it!'
          Log file haven't indicated that I have AMD graphics now:

          Code:
          DDC2biAddr = 0x6E
          RamWriteAddr = 0x1800
          RunAtAddr = 0x1800

            Re: Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 7-EU - HDMI firmware update issue

            Maybe it's an off topic (and sorry for my bad English) but i have a problem with HDMI connection with my TV. When i connect pc using motherboard HDMI to Dell u2410 monitor system picks it up instantly (shows bios post screen and windows loading). But when i try to connect it to my Toshiba Tv (it's an old model but has HDMI 1.3) it does not show anything... not bios post screen not system loading... So any one knows a solution ...

                Re: Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 7-EU - HDMI firmware update issue

                I was finally able to update the HDMI firmware.

                Gigabyte told me, the Update is only possible, if I remove every dedicated PCIe video card and boot with the internal iGPU inside of my Skylake CPU.
                That did work for me and I was able to update.

                When my NVidia GPU was plugged in, I've got the same failure messages, as here shown in the thread.

                But I am still unable to update the thunderbold firmware.

                Could someone show me a compare, where the update did work for thunderbolt?

                  B16.0121.1 doesn't fix anything.

                  ConiKost, I don't have any PCIe video card and I'm using only iGPU but it doesn't work. Can you share what CPU you have and what is in BobcatAuxISPTool.log and Config.ini in Megachips folder?

                  By the way here is details about thunderbolt:

                      What if you run BobcatAuxISPTool.exe with admin privileges? Then I think log file should not be empty.
                      How have you had your display connected to iGPU during firmware upgrade? Displayport or HDMI (what kind of HDMI)?
                      And what's in your Config.ini?

                        But I've already my NVidia GPU, so I guess, that Log is out of date..
                        My iGPU was connected over HDMI. What do you mean what kind of HDMI? It was connected to my Eizo FX2431.. specs says HDMI 1.3..

                          Still doesnt work for me either. I have physically removed my amd graphics card booted with igpu and used the updated megachips software. Still no luck. ConiKost, what graphics card are you using, are you using the gtx 960? Heres my thunderbolt info. i guess my thunderbolt didnt update properly either since elc00l thunderbolt nvme firmware says 14.

                            Yes, I think also, my Thunderbolt Update did not work, as my version is the same as yours and older than elc00l.

                            But, before I was able eben to Boot with my iGPU, i had to do a complete CMOS-Clear!
