  • Does GA-X58A-UD5 (rev. 1.0) support Xeon x5660?

    Gigabyte's cpu support list only lists rev. 2 of the motherboard as supporting the x5660, but I was wondering if anyone has tried rev. 1? Thanks.

    most boards that don't support this CPU require some sort of bios mod to negate the 2nd QPI lane that the CPU has.

    my EVGA board (pre e770) had a mod posted online. but I've never found one for EX58's or X58A's v1.0... I've tried looking. if you find one please post it as I have an X58A that I could mod to get working.

      Hello , i have the board and after reading this statement , i cannot see a reason for x5600 xeons not to run on a UD5 rev 1.0 too(with latest bios) . Checking this , i can see that rev 1.0 ud3r and ud5 apart from the same "official compatibility" restrictions , they share the same bios updates too. Anyhow , i'll probably pull the trigger for a x5650 and post the results here.

        Please do, I have the same board (although limp) I think it would be worth while to get CPU to give it a go.\

          prob not much help, but ive been using and ocing a x5650 on the older EX58-UD5 (not on the cpu support list, no mod needed) cant see a reason why it wouldn't work if other Xeons,32nm,6 cores were supported)

            Hello ,

            according to gigabyte list , all EX58-UD5 revisions support the x5600 xeons while my x58 ud5 rev 1.0 not. I searched /asked in all major forums (here , OCN ,Ocuk ,etc) but no one has test x5600 xeons on that mobo yet. My only hope are some successful reports with rev 1.0 ud3r and ud7 ,but who knows. If i succeed i'll be the first of my kind!

                You are right man (i was slapdash) , and for some reason gigabyte refers only xeon x5500 series on that list ?? (not x5600) . But still , EX UD5 series officially supports much more xeons than mine , so better odds

                  Good news guys.

                  Xeon x5650 boots ok with ud5 x58A rev 1.0 - bios F7. Default (auto) mobo settings boots at 1333 mhz ddr3 (all 6 slots occupied 12 gb) , 1.21 vcore , 1.17 vtt. Also i can see it has x22 multi available. I have yet to attempt some overclock.

                        Since I've been looking all over the 'net recently for the same information (and not being able to find much info), I thought I'd register on the forum and add my two cents;

                        I can confirm a Xeon X5670 works in the GA-X58A-UD5 rev 1.0 mobo with BIOS version F8A.
                        It's been running perfectly stable (did some benchmarks as well an IntelBurnTest and Prime95) for more than a week now.

                          Did you manage to overclock it though? I have the GA-X58A-UD5 rev 2 and if I change anything in the bios it refuses to boot (overclock failed). other than that my x5670 runs fine, I just dont seem to be able to overclock the thing :(
