Hi all.its time for me to oc my system and i need some suggestions

    my system is an i7 920 with prolimatech megahalems.ex58 ud5 , ram 3x ocz3p2000lv6gk and sapphire 5850.

my current and First oc is this (didnt search a lot,i just used a setup found in this forum) seems to be stable. temp with prime 95 for 10 minutes under 70

    Re: oc 920 to 3.8

looks ok but I would make/try these adjustments so that cpu downclcoks itself at idle/full speed if stressed (make a note of load/stress voltages in cpu-z while stressing) if too high use less dvid voltage/more if too low

with my previous setup pc froze after all... :(

btw blck 181 or 200? i tryed the setup you told with blck 181 , DRAM Voltage 1.64v ,QPI/VTT Voltage ..................... [1.34] (didn't have 1.35 onl;y 1.36 with pink letters) all the other as you told and when screen came on it was Red. any suggestions?

when i set the vcore to normal next was the stock voltage?if so it was CPU Vcore ............................... [1.29375V] [NORMAL]

and tryed both dvid 0.05 and 0.04

          Re: oc 920 to 3.8

you might not need any dvid if it defaults to 1.29375v when you set cpu v to normal

did it boot? you have a plus + and a negative - dvid, this adds extra cpu voltage at load ontop of default cpu voltage,or takes off voltage/undervolts stock cpu v

          if its too much try a -0.0500v = 1.24375v

            Re: oc 920 to 3.8

hi again and really thanks for your assist.didn't try yet normal dvid. i think that 1.29375v is much more than 1.25(my previous setup) for 3.8 ghz. i did try -0.05,-0.04,-0.03 dvid but i got Red screen and sometimes the mobo logo and then Frozen.i alslo tryed my settings to 3.8 with your cpu voltage to start from there and go up step by step

if i remember correct this setup froze in Windows logo when booting
in the setup you suggest the memory freq is set to 1800 .you think it will be easy and compare to 1600 will i see the defference?

... i cleared cmos and now i am with stock 1.29375 with -0.093750v turbo enable cpu clk 20x bclk 133 spd 12 1600 mhz and ram volt 1.54

btw wit this settings far cry 4 was 25-35 fps. to bad... its 30 fps lower. now i think i MUST go to 3.8.
            thanks again for your help.

                Re: oc 920 to 3.8

run prime for as long as you would use your system. if it's 24/7 then run it for a few days. that little of a snapshot doesn't tell you how it'll be long term. Your temps seem on, but try to keep them below 80. When gaming the GPU will add heat to the case and that'll add to your case heat.

Can you lower your QPI link Multi? or is x36 the lowest you can go before it sets to [slow]

if you want faster Ram, run your DRAM at your rams rated voltage, if you can't get 1.65 then run it at 1.66 then increase your System Memory Multiplier (SPD) ........ [x8] to x10... from there is should go to 1866mhz

for DVID I never played with that, for a cpu clock 3.8Mhz I set at a solid 1.25V Vcore with vroop set to (less) I forget the exact term.

your RAM will do 2000Mhz with the right timings. You aren't running them at their rating.

                  Re: oc 920 to 3.8

hi and thanks for your time.i know that i need more time testing stability.those days i didnt test it more but i am playing many hours each day without problems! so i think that for the usage i make its stable.no blue screen no freeze etc etc.while in game both cpu and gpu stays below 60 so i am ok.i'll check the multi for lower(what will i gain if i do that?). its better if a start lowering IOH Core 1.24V or you think its safe?
as for ram i am running it at 200 bclk so if i go for 10x will go 2000.should i try cpu multi 20 or 21 (with more cpu volt and qpi vtt volts?) bclk 180 with 1.66 ram volts and 9 9 9 30 for spd 10x?

i noticed that cpu volts at normal are not stable(i mean that when i am logging to bios sometimes i see 1.22 normal and some other times 1.23 . it has a range 1.22~1.23 (and when at stock without oc was 1.29 and i had dvid -0.8)
                  now i am using

                    Re: oc 920 to 3.8

for that clock speed when I was running a 920 I had to be in the area of 1.35 vcore and nearly 1.4v for QPI.

For timings, don't change all of them at the same time, and start with tRCD if you want to lower it. and just a heads up, bad memory setting can corrupt your OS. So if you start playing with your timings I'd recommend that you get a MemTestx86 Boot USB or CD. If you get a pass with that application then you are about 99% that in windows will be golden.

Otherwise make sure your OS backup is up to date.
