  • Having problems with my old GA-P35-S3G

I have had these problems, ever since I got my motherboard in 2008. I have recently gotten back into trying to tweak overclock it. I could not remember why I never got it to work, well now I remember.

I have a Core 2 Duo E7200, running at stock speeds ever since I have had it. I have decided just for fun, I would try to OC it and get it a little more life and make a second useful computer when I build me a new one. However, when I go to do any sort of overclocking the settings reset themselves and never go into effect after I enter them into the BIOS, they just go back to normal. I have looked for solutions for this and the F3A BIOS is supposed to fix this, however I am on F4. I have downloaded the F6C BIOS and copied it over to my USB drive (FAT32 Formatted), and it is not recognized in Q-Flash when I try to update to it.

Anyone know what may be my issue here?

    Thanks

What power supply are you running?
    What are your Bios settings?
What Ram are you running and in what slots?
What OC are you trying to achieve?
Try a FAT16 formatted USB stick. and also the older the better...

    let us know

Re: Having problems with my old GA-P35-S3G

We need detailed information about ALL OF THE HARDWARE in your system.

We can best help you after you create a detailed hardware list in the System Specs
portion of your forum profile at the bottom of the profile page or in your forum signature.
Be sure to include brand names and model numbers.
When you are done editing or creating your hardware list, save the settings.

Re: Having problems with my old GA-P35-S3G

        I have a C2D E7200.
4GB RAM (I believe it is 667 Mhz), not sure of the manufacturer, it was bought in 2008 and I don't have the packaging and it is not labeled other than with Nvidia.
        512MB 8800 GTX.
        500 Watt PSU
Gigabyte GA-P35-S3G with F4 BIOS. The only BIOS settings that I have changed was the boot order to have CD first.

I am just trying to get the best OC that I can.
I can't even get the RAM Ratio to stay at 1:1 and use the FSB at 333 Mhz up from the default 266.

Re: Having problems with my old GA-P35-S3G

You don't understand, it is a PITA when you don't put your hardware list in the PC Specs drop down menu or in your forum signature.
Sometimes it takes several pages of posts to solve a problem and many of us are helping in several threads at the same time.
My policy is not to help out in threads where the OP makes it difficult to instantly review their hardware list.
BTW there are very few forum members who help out with older hardware as they have moved on to much newer systems.

Download and run Cpu-z, click on the Tools option at the bottom of its window, select Save Report as .TXT, and then upload the saved report file in your next post.
You can find the cpu-z download link in the http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...ity-tools.html thread.
The cpu-z report should provide us with the name and model number for your ram.
This will provide some of the information we need, but you still need to create a detailed hardware list so that we can better help you solve your problem.

Re: Having problems with my old GA-P35-S3G

I won't be at that PC for 10 more hours or so. I will get that in there when I get back to it.

In the mean time, I have put my specs in that last post, and they are accurate, can you not just give me something to try for when I get back to it? I'll have my signature fixed then!

            Here are the specs again:
4GB RAM (I believe it is 667 Mhz), not sure of the manufacturer, it was bought in 2008 and I don't have the packaging and it is not labeled other than with Nvidia. 6-6-6-18-2T

Re: Having problems with my old GA-P35-S3G

Check out http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...tage-help.html where the OP overclocked his system to 3.9GHz with an E8400 cpu.

He created an excellent easy to read bios template where he posted his bios settings.

You need to post a bios template with your bios settings accurately filled in.

Re: Having problems with my old GA-P35-S3G

I have tried a few different things, right now, as I previously said, everything in my BIOS is on stock settings except for the boot order.

One instance, I only upped the FSB by 9 MHz to 275 Mhz and it would would reset itself. I'm not even concerned about getting a huge OC right now.

Re: Having problems with my old GA-P35-S3G
                  1. Go into the bios and load optimized bios defaults.
                  2. Change your boot order if needed.
                  3. With 2x2GB of memory, set (G)MCH OverVoltage Control = +0.1V
                  4. Save settings, exit the bios and see if this helps.

Chances are with only one 2GB memory module installed, your system might be able to overclock somewhat without changing the voltage.

We also need to know the brand and model number of your cpu cooler and power supply.

Read Lsdme's posts in his http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...ash-guide.html

QFlash can't read any NTFS formatted drives, the extracted bios file must be in root folder of a FAT formatted drive; usb flash drive, floppy drive or hard drive.

That is exactly what I did. The filename was p35-s3g.f6c or something similar and I placed it into the root directory of a FAT32 USB drive.

There are no options that say hard drive like the picture shows. I have two that say floppy (I have no floppy drive). One of them is my USB drive because it will show me the free/total capacity, which correlates it to the USB drive.

I will NEVER own another Gigabyte motherboard.
