  • *** 127 C (degrees) *** GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UDR3 and COREi7

    Hi, Good morning.

my computer has the following parts:

    GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UDR3 v2.0
    INTEL CORE i7 920
    OCZ Gold 2x2gb
    MSI R6950
    EXT2 CoolerMaster 625W
    Thermaltake Soprano RS

    specific question:

In the mainboard the CPU TEMP red and green LEDs are ON.

in the bios --- PC Healt Status.
    shows:
    Current CPU Temperature: 127 C
    Current Temperature 44C MCH
    Current CPU Fan Speed 2250rpm

    ---- NO OC----
No matter how much time the PC is ON, the 127 C always be there.

OMG! hotter as hell, but no!., actually seems to work normally, no bluescreen, no freeze, no restarts or shutdowns.

the equipment worked normally, at 127 degrees at least should see smoke!

ok, download other apps to check in windows:
    AIDA64, Cores normal temperatures
HW Monitor, CPU 127, standard cores
    CoreTemp normal

    Photos attached.

Any idea? what happens? should I worry? a friend could provide me with a CoolerMaster 212, I would think that could help,

Thank you for all the help!

Well, when the core temps are just ~48C the CPU can't be 127C .. sounds like a defect socket sensor!?

            ahh yes

seems strange but doubt its actually 127c,it would fry

as mentioned above faulty or stuck sensor, but no idea where the sensor is located on the board

you can't access/repair that sensor - get a new board if that bugs you!
it even could be this is 127F (not C) which would be more plausible.

as above CPU temp is a sensor near/under the socket while core temp is an on-die sensor embedded into the CPU - with a good cooler (and good airflow inside case) the core temp is usually ~10C lower than the "socket" temperature.

See image - top core temps, bottom CPU temp

yep, i think so,whe i change the heatskin will see "inside" the socket, clean carefully and see what happens.

Do NOT try to clean inside the CPU socket!! The contact points in the socket, all 1,366 of them for an i7-920 CPU, are very delicate! You cannot touch them with anything like a cloth or Q-Tip, and never touch them with your finger! The contacts will bend very easily and cannot be fixed, you must replace the mother board if that happens.

The inside of the CPU socket does not get dirty as long as a CPU is in the socket, or its cover is on. Dirt or dust is not the problem with the sensor, it is just a tiny electronic part that is not working right, and stuck at sending a signal that is equal to 127C. That part cannot be replaced.

The good news is that sensor is not part of the CPU itself. If it was, the CPU would shut itself off since 127C is above the maximum temperature of any CPU.

As the others have said, just ignore that reading, it is just wrong and will not affect your use of that mother board.

                        thanks for your advice,

another question will be... a BIOS update will be fix this issue?

I don't think a BIOS update can fix your problem, because your board is the only one with this problem, as far as I know.

If ALL the boards of this model had this problem, then a BIOS update for a fix would be more possible, since the BIOS would probably be the problem.

That temperature sensor is broken on the board, a BIOS update can't fix a broken part.
